Patient Account Representative (Collections)

Job Description:

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for performing timely and accurate submissions of claims and/or related collection follow-up. Follow established reimbursement practice to maintain accounts receivable. Reports to: AR SupervisorJob Location: New Providence, NJQualifications and ExperienceMinimum Education: College Degree; preferably Business backgroundLicensure/Certification: NoneMinimum Experience: Working knowledge of general office procedure, medical terminology and medical reimbursement experience preferred; Specialty Infusion experience a plusKnowledge/Abilities/Skills: CRT and/or PC, FAX, copier, calculator, computerized account receivable, CPR+ System a plus.Requirements Routinely review accounts receivable and ensure that collectability is accurately reflected. Prepare adjustments and write-offs for data entry. Maintain Master Files and allowables for assigned payors. Prepare status change forms for data entry as needed. Keep management apprised of patient or payor issues. Complete reimbursement projects to affect specific team/department issues. Follow established reimbursement processes to ensure effective and efficient A/R resolution. Submit primary and secondary claims in accordance with internal billing instructions and individual payor requirements. Keep abreast of payor guidelines. Schedule and perform regular and timely collection follow-up (telephone and written) on all assigned accounts and document activity. Prepare work-related reports and submit to management Comply with division guidelines regarding payroll record keeping (i.e., timecard punching, vacation requests, sick callouts). Arrive at workstation at scheduled start time prepared to work, do not leave workstation until scheduled end time. Be polite and courteous to all co-workers, customers and vendors to assure a pleasant work environment. Arrive at work in appropriate attire as specified in the administrative or departmental dress code policy. Demonstrate a "team" philosophy in daily operations and problem solving methods. Be aware of the surrounding physical environment to assure a safe instructed by the company (i.e., FDA, DOT, OSHA, DEA, DEP, etc.). Integrate division Mission Statement and Credo into daily activities. Participates in mandatory annual in-services and HIPAA training. Report any potential HIPAA infringements to the Privacy Officer. Conduct yourself in a manner conducive with a professional and productive working environment. Notify management of urgent or important issues and information related to your area, department (i.e. payor changes, system problems, potential backlogs). Complete assignments timely and advise supervisor of progress. Prioritizes tasks accurately on a daily basis. Review all work to assure accuracy prior to submission to your co-workers or supervisor. Clearly transfer/convey all information in a written or verbal method to assure accurate and timely communication. Cross train supporting departmental efforts. Adhere to the monthly, quarterly or annual closing schedule. Unless urgent, conduct non-work related business at break time. Assist with other projects, as assigned. Keep all financial information confidential, in accordance with company procedure and HIPAA Regulations.
