  • Technical Training and business development workshopsMore Than a JobWe're hiring for a Tax Controversy Manager for our New York City office. Burgeoning tax controversy practice desires candidate possessing tax controversy experience. Will be responsible for handling tax agency audits of all types (individuals, entities, federal, state, local), investigating and responding to tax agency notices, and pursuing voluntary disclosures and other delinquent/deficient return submission procedures, appeals to IRS, Collection Due Process hearings, Taxpayer Advocate Service requests, and private letter ruling requests. Responsibilities include and are not limited to the following:
    • Handle key aspects of tax agency audits, including communicating with auditors, drafting responses to IDRs, liaising directly with clients, gathering, organizing and presenting data in an organized and persuasive manner
    • Investigate and respond to tax agency notices, including those involving unreported income, delinquency penalties, unfiled forms and returns, enforced collection (liens, levies, warrants, garnishments)
    • Draft tax voluntary disclosure submissions, Streamlined submissions, Delinquent International Information Return Submission Procedures submissions, Delinquent FBAR submissions
    • Draft appeals to IRS, Collection Due Process (CDP) hearing requests, request for TAS assistance, private letter ruling requests
    • Negotiate offers in compromise and installment agreement payment plans with the taxing authorities
    • Perform tax research, prepare written memoranda discussing and analyzing technical and procedural tax issues
    • Communicate effectively with tax agency personnel, clients, senior and junior staff
    • Manage multiple client projects and expectations with proactive communication and timelinessRequirements:
      • JD (and passed the bar) or EA or CPA
      • Advanced degree in tax (e.g., LL.M. or MST) preferred
      • 5+ years' experience with tax controversy work
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
      • Excellent research skills
      • Ability to work independently, but also work well as part of a team
