Job Description:

ABOUT AMERICAN FRIENDS OF THE LOUVRE: American Friends of the Louvre (AFL) is a tax-exempt charity organized in the United States. It was established to strengthen ties between the Louvre and the American public and to formalize the longstanding generosity of American patrons. Through its support, AFL raises awareness of the Louvre's collections and museum expertise and helps make the Museum's exhibitions and permanent collections more accessible in the U.S. and around the world.
Since its inception, AFL has secured more than $40 million for the Louvre benefitting the curatorial departments, research and restoration programs, education and accessibility initiatives, projects in the Tuileries Garden, international programs, and the Louvre Endowment. In addition, through its fundraising efforts and endowment/reserve funds, AFL finances its own operating budget each year.
AFL has developed a loyal constituency of donors across the U.S. and overseas. The New York office was established in 2004, and in 2018, a strategic decision was made to expand operations to Los Angeles to further develop AFL's donor base. Expansion to other regions may be planned in the future. For more information, please visit .
FUNDING: AFL generates approximately $2-$3 million annually-and in some years much more-through dedicated trustees, members, and special events including an annual gala. The annual operating budget is approximately $800,000, and AFL has endowment and reserve funds with a combined current market value of $8 million.
THE OPPORTUNITY: The Board of Directors of AFL has launched a search for an Executive Director to take the reins from its founding Executive Director, who is departing in mid-2023. The role is a unique opportunity to build upon the organization's accomplishments to date and assist -the first woman to helm the Louvre-in realizing her exciting vision for the museum. Americans are the largest group of foreign visitors to the Louvre, and the museum has ongoing partnerships with museums across the U.S.
The Executive Director reports to the Chairman and the Board of Directors and will lead a team currently comprised of a Director of Development and Communications; Director of Programs and Events; Development and Events Coordinator (part-time); and Finance Assistant.
