Social Impact Manager Cooley is seeking a Social Impact Manager to join the Social Impact and Sustainability team. Position summary: Working closely with the Director of Social Impact & Sustainability and Pro Bono partner, the Social Impact Manager will play a significant role in the firm's ability to better engage with local and global communities, nonprofit organizations, clients, employees, potential hires and firm leadership. The Social Impact Manager will work closely with designated managers and directors in HR, DE&I and Office Administration to ensure meaningful, strategic goals are established and achieved to positively support our communities, increase employee engagement, and create positive business outcomes. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Position responsibilities:

  • Working with Director of SIS, help drive development and implementation of strategies for the firm's corporate giving and social impact initiatives, ensuring that such strategies are aligned with the firm's overall mission and priorities; work closely with Pro Bono practice, DEI, Office Operations, Marketing/Communications and HR management in this effort
  • Lead engagement, partnerships, and advocacy with key external entities to advance Cooley's social responsibility presence and leadership
  • Provide information to the Director of SIS and Pro Bono practice to aid the Director in providing strategic guidance to senior leadership to establishing organizational philanthropy and volunteerism goals, objectives, and reporting
  • Ensure meaningful long-term goals and KPIs surrounding volunteerism and philanthropy are met to positively impact support our communities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to gather insights and ideas on how to make social impact initiatives more impactful as they relate to philanthropy and volunteerism
  • Partner with our marketing communications team to ensure effective communication of key (corporate philanthropy and employee giving focused) messaging and strategies to internal and external audiences. Develop narratives to drive impactful communications strategies that reach a wide internal and external audience
  • Oversee budget and programming for corporate giving to ensure alignment and outcome success; engage with firm leadership and develop criteria for evaluation
  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures related to corporate giving & volunteerism to ensure programs operate efficiently and are in compliance with federal and state laws, as well as industry standards
  • Evaluate current and pending initiatives against industry standards
  • Oversee the firm's employee volunteer program and policy to ensure alignment with firm goals
  • Monitor and advise on employee giving and employee volunteer programs in each office and incorporate firmwide initiatives, guides, and policies to support local volunteer committees in each office
  • In coordination with HR and Director of SIS, oversee the bereavement charitable donation process as well as firm donations related to natural disasters
  • Write and edit materials to promote initiatives and programs
  • Develop events to promote current and future corporate social responsibility programs
  • Serve as primary point of contact for questions on social responsibility within the firm
  • Develop reporting capabilities to support a comprehensive and accurate picture of the firm's total giving, support approach(es) that enable the firm to measure change delivered by its programs
  • Provide data for regulatory and finance reporting; analyze and reconcile, as required
  • Generate communications and produce materials and presentations for community events
  • Assist the Social Impact and Sustainability team with sustainability related efforts as needed Supervisory (when there are direct reports):
    • Serve as direct supervisor and mentor to direct reports
    • Provide day-to-day supervision of direct reports, ensure compliance with assigned work hours and monitor for compliance with all firm and department policies. Manage staffing coverage, review and process time logs/time off requests
    • Support business professional development and continued educational opportunities
    • In collaboration with immediate supervisor and CN HR, participate in hiring, performance appraisals, counseling, termination and other employee lifecycle events
    • All other duties as assigned or required Skills and experience: Required:
      • Ability to work extended and/or weekend hours, as required
      • Ability to travel, as required
      • 5+ years relevant experience, including volunteer management, event planning, corporate social responsibility, and corporate philanthropy experience
      • Effective analytical skills and high attention to detail, including the ability to develop business cases, supervise the development of analytics and metrics, set goals, and identify gaps and opportunities for new projects and programs
      • Background in volunteer and event management, charitable giving, community relations, and employee engagement, as well as an eye for global trends that impact those issues
      • Demonstrated ability in establishing relevant social impact-related metrics and a track record of exceeding goals
      • Strong understanding of accountability models and metrics Preferred:
        • Bachelor's degree
        • Law firm or professional services industry experience
        • Supervisory experience Competencies:
          • Excellent communication skills to develop internal and external networks
          • Strong event management, leadership, and team building skills
          • Empathetic and self-motivated leader that can excel in a fast-paced environment
          • Proven ability to build rapport quickly, and influence internal and external entities of all levels
          • Demonstrated ability to build, implement and evolve corporate social responsibility programs
          • Strong business acumen with a broad experience of financial reporting, corporate communications, brand marketing, public relations and human resources
          • Detail-orientated, organized and process driven
          • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and coordinate multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment
          • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality of firm information
          • Strong problem solving and coaching skills
          • Team player with the ability to form independent relationships across multiple departments and bring employees together across different locations and departments
          • Excellent customer service skills Cooley offers a competitive compensation and excellent benefits package and is committed to fair and equitable employment practices. EOE The expected annual pay range for this position is $105,000 - $155,000. Please note that final offer amount will be dependent on geographic location, applicable experience and skillset of the candidate. Senior level candidates may be considered for this position, and would be eligible for a higher salary range based on experience.
