living! Position Summary: The Senior Accountant is primarily
responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting.
The Accounting Senior will work very closely with the Corporate
Controller to develop and implement Maplewood Senior Living’s
accounting functions and financial reporting. This role is pivotal
in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with
accounting standards and regulations, and providing strategic
financial guidance to the organization. Essential Functions: -
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, including income
statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, to ensure
accuracy and compliance with accounting standards (GAAP). - Conduct
financial analysis and variance analysis to provide insights into
the organization's financial performance and to support strategic
decision-making. - Oversee the general ledger accounting process,
including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end and
year-end closing processes. - Assist the Accounts Payable and
Accounts Receivable departments, ensuring timely and accurate
processing of invoices, payments, and collections. - Ensure
compliance with tax regulations, including the preparation and
filing of tax returns (e.g., income tax, sales tax, payroll tax),
and liaise with external tax advisors. - Assist with external
audits, ensuring that financial statements and records are prepared
and presented accurately for audit purposes. - Develop and maintain
internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure
the accuracy of financial data. - Lead and mentor accounting staff,
including hiring, training, and performance evaluations. - Develop
and implement accounting policies and procedures to enhance
efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with regulations. - Monitor
and manage cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operational
needs and investment opportunities. - Stay current with accounting
standards and regulations with GAAP and ensure the organization's
financial practices remain in compliance. - Participate in monthly
financial reviews with community management by analyzing financial
data and interpreting results of operations - Assist in preparing
monthly financial reporting package for upper management - Assist
with external audit requests and other corporate reporting
requirements - Assist with development, maintenance and
documentation of all policies and procedures related to assigned
areas of responsibility - Contribute to department and organization
of special projects as assigned - Assist with initiatives to
automate financial workflows, leveraging tools like Vena, Power
Automate, Power BI, Alteryx, and/or Excel macros to streamline
repetitive tasks, reduce manual errors, and enhance team efficiency
Education/Experience/Licensure/Certification - A bachelor's degree
in accounting or finance required. A master's degree or
professional certification is preferred but not required (e.g. MBA,
Certified Public Accountant - CPA, Chartered Accountant - CA). -
Several years of progressively responsible accounting experience. -
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi or similar ERP
systems, FloQast, and spreadsheet tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel). -
Proficiency in data automation and analysis tools is recommended
(e.g. Vena, Alteryx, Power BI, Tableau, Python) - Strong knowledge
of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and familiarity
with tax regulations and financial reporting standards. - Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret financial data
and make strategic recommendations. - Excellent communication
skills to convey financial information to non-financial
stakeholders and to collaborate with other departments. -
Exceptional attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of financial
records and reports. - Leadership and team management skills to
guide and motivate the accounting team. - High ethical standards
and integrity when handling financial transactions and sensitive
