Position Overview:Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Planned Giving Officer (PGO) is responsible for the development and execution of the DRIF's planned giving strategy. The PGO will personally manage a strategic portfolio of $100,000+ committed and prospective planned giving donors. The PGO will be responsible for identifying legacy intentions and promoting planned giving while also stewarding donors who have already included DRIF in their estate plans.In addition, the PGO will leverage all available channels to build abranded planned giving program. The PGO will collaborate with the Marketing & DonorCommunications team to drive awareness and reach, as well as to steward existingplanned giving donors. The PGO collaboratively with the Philanthropy and Events teamsto cultivate and manage planned and legacy gift strategies organization-wide.The PGO is also responsible for the administrative functions pertaining to planned gifts,internally and externally managed annuities and trusts, estate and trust distributions, IRAgifts, outright gifts of securities, non-cash gifts including real estate, art, tangiblepersonal property, life insurance, and complex asset gifts. This role will ensurecompliance with all applicable policies and laws pertaining to planned gifts.
Responsibilities and Functions:This position will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:Manage a portfolio of committed & prospective $100,000+ planned giving donors

  • Grow the number of $100,000+ planned gift intentions by a target growth rate each fiscal year
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a targeted portfolio of current and prospective planned giving donors
  • Develop and execute individualized engagement plans for portfolio donors
  • Inform and educate donors about various gift offerings that will address their philanthropic and financial goals while providing support for DRIF
  • Prepare life income and other planned gift proposals, including calculations and related documents for donors and their advisors, and follow-up via telephone, correspondence or face-to-face meetings to close gifts
  • Assist and collaborate with advisors (accountants, attorneys, and financial planners) to structure and implement customized planned gift strategies.
  • Be able to articulate the case for support for the DRI, as well as the scientific research strategy and the various initiatives
  • Track all donor interactions and planned gift intentions in Raiser's Edge on a consistent basis; provide monthly reporting to management that accurately
  • reflects activity and pipeline
    Oversee development and execution of marketing & engagement strategies
    • Develop, promote, and expand the Heritage Society, the DRIF's planned giving membership program, to enhance the planned giving donor experience and raise the profile of DRIF's planned giving program
    • Direct development and implementation of marketing strategy to expand planned giving based, in colaboration with Marketing & Donor Communications Team
    • Collaborate with Philanthropy and Special Events team to integrate planned giving collateral into donor outreach, including events
      Support staff & volunteers in planned giving-related activities
      • Participate in donor meetings, as needed, serving as the subject-matter expert on planned giving opportunities that complement major or event gifts
      • Prepare gift proposals and provide additional information as needed to help secure planned gifts
      • Train philanthropy staff and volunteers in planned giving tools, techniques, and strategies
      • Work collaboratively with staff and volunteers across all revenue streams, as needed
        Manage incoming estate gifts
        • Collaborate with the Finance team to process incoming estate gifts
        • Serve as the Foundation's subject-matter expert on best practices and applicable laws
          Qualifications:
          • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred
          • 5+ years of demonstrated success in a front-line fundraising and development function; 2+ years of direct experience in planned giving
          • Strong knowledge of tax, financial, and estate planning techniques
          • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
          • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term relationships
          • Ability to work both independently without close oversight, but also a team player who will productively engage with others at varying levels of seniority within and outside the Foundation
          • High energy and passion for DRIF's mission is essential
          • Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention to detail
          • A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
          • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to management
          • Passion, humility, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
          • Must be willing to travel throughout
