The Colleges are governed by their own statutes and regulations but are integral to the make-up of the University of Cambridge.Colleges Students live, eat and socialize in one of the University's 31 autonomous Colleges. Undergraduates receive College supervisions - small group teaching sessions - regarded as one of the best teaching models in the world. Each College has its own internal procedures. They select their own students, subject to University regulations, and most admit both undergraduate and postgraduate students. College representatives sit on the University Council and Finance Committee.Schools There are six Schools, which each form an administrative grouping of Faculties and other institutions. They are: Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Technology. There is a Council of each School - including representatives of its Faculties and Departments. The Schools are represented on the General Board.Faculties and Departments University Faculties organize teaching and research into individual subjects or groups of subjects. Their work is normally organized into sub-divisions called Departments. Centers of studies are controlled by committees of management, bringing together representatives from several disciplines.THE POSITION --- - -CAm seeks an experienced, entrepreneurial fundraiser, with a track record of successfully soliciting and closing seven figure gifts, to join its staff as Senior Director of Development.Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate will manage a team of seven (7) fundraising professionals as well as a personal portfolio of principal gift prospects. -The role has ultimate responsibility for planning and executing all activities related to soliciting and closing gifts (principal, major, planned and leadership annual fund) from U.S.-based Cambridge alumni and non-alumni. -The focus is for this role is on expanding CAm's support from individuals with a view to substantial growth over the next 3 - 5 years. -The Senor Director will also work with the Executive Director to ensure excellence in engaging and managing the Board of Directors.ResponsibilitiesStrategically manage a portfolio of about 50-60 donors and prospects capable of seven figure+ gifts, by designing strategies for cultivating, soliciting and closing gifts through personal interactions.Manage a team of three (3) regionally focused major gift fundraisers, a principal and planned giving fundraiser, a planned giving and settlement officer, a development writer and a development associate.Set priorities for the fundraising team and individual fundraisers.Working with the Executive Director, manage relationships with Board Members with annual work plans and develop board meeting agendas and presentations.Working with the Executive Director and the Board Coordinator, management of all aspects of visits to the United States and Canada by the Vice-Chancellor and senior leadership at the University.Work collaboratively with Cambridge University Alumni and Development and Cambridge Colleges to develop proposals, cultivate donors, close gifts and provide highly personalized stewardship.Establish strong working relationships with Cambridge academic and development staff, Cambridge in America Board members, and other key volunteers.Acquire and maintain thorough knowledge of Collegiate Cambridge through regular contact with administrators, faculty, and staff.Assist with planning events to help CAm build its prospect pipeline.Regularly attend CAm events and support CAm's alumni relations program.Work with Cambridge University Alumni and Development in setting and monitoring matrices of key performance indicators for the fundraising team overall and for individual fundraisers.Travel within the U.S. and to the U.K. as necessary to accomplish the above goals. -Qualifications:Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of working in development and extensive major and principal giving experience, preferably at a prestigious institution of higher education.Demonstrated success in building relationships with high capacity prospects and donors.A player-coach with proven ability to manage and motivate staff and promote a culture of teamwork.Experience working with a high-level Board of Directors.Impressive track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing high level gifts from individual donors.Passion for the education and research mission of an historic, world-class university, and the ability to communicate this mission in an inspiring manner to prospects and donors.Intelligence, sophistication and confidence necessary to work with research faculty and represent Collegiate Cambridge to high capacity alumni and non-alumni prospects and donors.Knowledge of and commitment to best practices for higher education development.Entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to think creatively and strategically to solve problems and address challenges as they arise.Ability to work both independently and as a member of a collaborative team. - - - - - - - - -Excellent verbal and written communication skills to express with clarity, passion and persuasion the mission and programs of Collegiate Cambridge.Superior analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills.A strong work ethic and drive to succeed.Familiarity with industry standard database software.Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.COMPENSATIONThe successful candidate will receive salary that is competitive based on experience and a comprehensive benefits package including health & life insurance, 403(b) Retirement Plan, and generous paid vacation & holidays.Apply to:Dorene Zebarth, Business ManagerBy email: mail@Or by mail:1120 Avenue of the Americas17th FloorNew York, NY 10036Cambridge in America is an Equal Opportunity Employer
