Overall Summary -- Position Description The Director for Digital Media oversees day-to-day digital media planning and ad buying tactics for political clients, managing a team of media buyers and traders across Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Programmatic, SEM, and addressable OTT video. -Will oversee a direct team of ten people to start, including various agency resources. - - This leader aims to build deeper connections with audiences to motivate voter registration and political engagement, leveraging the power of data to drive insights and learning. - The role is leading a team but very much in the tactical details. - The reports to this role are "hands on keyboards." - This person will be making judgments, allocating which ad is going to segment A and which to segment B as we launch tests. - This is a role where you need to know details on control group hold back and the status of custom audience uploads to the TradeDesk or zip code uploads to YouTube. The person has to know the answer on the status of each of these questions at all times all day. - - Key Responsibilities Mastery of Digital Media Planning, Optimization, and Ad Ops, including detailed budget management and re-calibration in a fast-moving environment. Savvy ability to optimize for social engagement, voter support, voter registration, volunteer sign-ups, etc. -Ability to tune reach and frequency in a smart bidding strategy for cost-efficient buying. Excellent judgment in budget allocation and ability to adjust daily based on ad group performance and results. Responsible for managing fast-shifting digital budgets over $15 million monthly and up. Contribute to innovation in measurement/analytics frameworks to identify the most engaging content for voters in different segments. - - - Contribute to the development of forward thinking strategies more broadly. Oversee a workflow including working closely with colleagues in the creative/content teams to ensure appropriate creative formats are received and properly trafficked. Responsible for clear communication with senior client leadership, verbally and in written reports. Able to "stand alone" - with senior vendors, clients, and potential clients and partners. Proactively devising and pushing new concepts for innovation programs-- a thought leader with a track record of savvy accomplishments. (Note: This role does not cover "soft" - independent expenditure or NGO clients, only political campaigns and party work.) Qualifications Proficiency within Social Platforms (Facebook/Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.) Proficiency within DSPs to run Video & Display (particularly TTD) Conversant in Paid Search (Google Ads) Proficient user of ads trafficking tools and Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO) tools. 7-9 years experience within a digital media agency or ad platform that acts as a major media buyer. Grounded in current consumer trends and evolving media landscape Excellent verbal and written communication skills Detail oriented with critical thinking and problem-solving abilities Strong quantitative and analytical skills Ability to multi-task, work successfully with teams, and work under pressure Experience mentoring and training junior team members, and recruiting and developing diverse talent. Overview Hawkfish is a new startup to build state-of-the-art data and tech infrastructure for Democrats and progressive causes. Our clients include political campaigns, NGO advocacy groups, and PAC's. Mike Bloomberg for President 2020 is our first major customer, but we have already done work on behalf of Democratic candidates in state elections such as Virginia and Kentucky in 2019. Hawkfish leadership is a mix of experienced people from Silicon Valley and NYC tech companies, top-notch data scientists, and experienced Democratic campaign veterans. Hawkfish aims to support candidates and causes who will advance progress on climate change, gun safety, women's rights, education, access to healthcare, and more. We seek diverse, talented people who want to join the cause full-time in NYC, including data scientists, infra engineers, account strategists, creatives, project managers, etc. Our offices are in midtown Manhattan.
