Job Description:

The Audience Development Editor will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that grow digital audiences in line with NBCUniversal's business goals. The ideal candidate is a sports fanatic, a data-driven journalist and a goal-oriented self-starter. We're looking for someone who can strategically use search engines and social media to connect and engage sports fans with the content they love.

If you like using data to learn what makes audiences tick and being on the forefront of digital trends this role could be for you. It reports to NBCU Local's Audience Growth Manager. This role is open to be remote; however, the work location may be reassessed based on business needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leveraging knowledge of SEO, social media, digital industry trends and internal data to proactively identify best strategies for reaching audiences across NBCU's Regional Sports Networks.Identifying trending stories on search and social and seeding them to local markets and national editorial teams, writing them as necessary. Have an intimate knowledge of key moments during the sports calendar and a finger on the pulse of what audiences are looking for. Identifying gaps or opportunities to enhance existing coverage in ways that reach new audiences and engages loyal users. Working hand-in-hand with editors on framing stories, crafting engaging headlines and giving feedback on what unique audiences respond to.Becoming an integral part of the editorial process, seeding stories, writing content and working with key stakeholders to develop coverage plans for major sporting events in our regions.Become an authority on audience and platform trends, and keep editorial teams informed through training and developing best practices. Proactively help regions meet audience goals monthly.Working cross-functionally with Product and Research teams to develop and evaluate new strategies and tactics for growing and engaging audiences. Working closely with other members of the audience team to ensure top of funnel growth tactics sync with engagement and retention efforts on apps, newsletters, etc.Coordinating and executing campaigns to support NBCU's tentpole events like Super Bowl, Olympics, and other high priority company initiatives.

  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism preferred or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience working in an editorial, audience, social or SEO-focused role in a newsroom setting
  • Strong attention to detail, self-starter and must possess innovative thinking capabilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ensuring data accuracy
  • Must have strong news judgement
  • Proficiency with social media platforms (i.e. Twitter, Facebook)
  • Experience with one data platform (i.e. Adobe Analytics)
  • Familiarity in Google Trends, Socialflow and Slack
  • Spanish is a plus

    • Basic Qualifications
    • Must be 18 years or older
    • Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
    • Must be covered by Solutions - NBCU's Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
