Job Summary/Basic Function:



Reporting to the Senior Manager of Digital Communications, the Communications Writer is responsible for developing and writing impactful articles and other content to support and bolster institutional priorities across Teachers College's website, publications, events and other multimedia channels.



The Communications Writer executes content assignments; coordinates and executes their own interviews with sources; and handles multiple concurrent assignments on deadline. In this role, the Communications Writer helps execute forward-thinking content pieces that explain TC's faculty research and illuminates the TC experience and impact to a global audience.



The role involves working closely with team members as part of a seven-person Strategic Communications team as well as with colleagues across the TC Generation team that also includes Brand/Creative, Digital Campus Infrastructure, and Omnichannel Marketing within the Department of Institutional Advancement. The Communications Writer has the opportunity to work with faculty, staff, students and alumni across the College.



Responsibilities



+ Conduct interviews and research to write, edit and produce accurate, engaging content that promotes TC faculty, students, leadership, events, academic programs and alumni highlighting TC's impact, influence and relevance to timely issues, and that support and enhance the College's reputation, enrollment, and development objectives



+ Write compelling content in a variety of forms - including longer articles, round-ups, listicles, photo essays, etc. as well as short-form text, headlines, and captions



+ Follow editorial guidelines



+ Manage feedback and approval of content from necessary internal and external stakeholders, and coordinate changes to editorial content



+ Identify/secure appropriate article images and draft captions for publication



+ Stage articles on the website using the College's CMS, Terminal4



Minimum Qualifications:



+ B.A. or the equivalent years of education and experience, with a minimum of 2 years of experience working in communications, journalism, or publishing



+ Superb writing, editing, and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to concurrently research, write and rewrite multiple creative, well-researched, well-organized prose pieces in a fast-paced environment



+ Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with multiple internal and external constituencies, and work as part of a cross-functional team with diverse populations



+ Ability to learn new technologies and work with the College's content management system to update the website



+ Ability to collaborate with senior administrators and faculty, balance competing needs and demands, and create materials that benefit the institution while engaging audiences



+ Advanced editorial skills and the ability to synthesize material from multiple sources



+ Passion for and strong commitment to the work and TC's vision of promoting equity and social justice



Preferred Qualifications:



+ M.A. in journalism, communications, publishing or a related field



+ Highly collaborative style and ability to integrate feedback



+ Experience in both long-form and digital-first content creation



+ Experience in higher education



+ Team player with ability to lead, manage, and participate in cross-functional teams



+ Ability to work well with colleagues across the college including faculty, administrators, alumni, students, staff



+ A genuine and deep intellectual curiosity and excitement about learning



Salary Range:



61,340 - 76,000
