INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:The Wall Street Journal internship program
is an opportunity for college juniors, seniors and graduate
students to be fully immersed in our Pulitzer Prize-winning
newsroom, working with some of the best journalists in the
world.The 10-week, paid full-time internship program offers
hands-on work experience, one-on-one mentorship, plus orientation
and tailored training sessions. Interns are treated like full-time
staff members and are encouraged to pitch their own stories and
projects. The 2022 interns reported front-page news, created
interactive graphics, edited photo projects, wrote colorful
features, produced videos, assisted in daily production of
podcasts, reported and produced long form narrative podcast
episodes, curated and published our journalism across platforms,
and much more.We strive to be a welcoming, diverse newsroom. You
don't need to be an expert in business or finance to apply, but you
do need to be curious and eager to learn. The program has a storied
history as a pipeline to a full-time job at the Journal, whether
immediately or down the road.PHOTO EDITING INTERNSHIP:The Wall
Street Journal is seeking a photo editing intern to work with the
photo team based in New York. The photo team researches and
commissions photographs for digital and print editions of The Wall
Street Journal.We're looking for someone with interest in visual
storytelling, enthusiasm for good journalism and current events,
and sharp instincts for news and news values. You should have a
basic understanding of photography and familiarity with photo
editing programs, such as Photoshop and Photo Mechanic, and you
must have evident knowledge of photojournalism and documentary
photography.You should have strong communication and organizational
skills, plus a positive attitude and a drive to complete work
quickly and efficiently. Social media savviness, from Twitter to
Instagram, is a must. Basic coding skills are a plus.While we
welcome active photographers to the department, the majority of the
work during the internship will be in daily photo editing and
department production assistance.You will produce and build visual
assets for news stories and enterprise content with attention to
detail in a fast-paced newsroom, anticipating photographic needs as
stories develop. You may also commission original content, working
with photographers, editors and reporters to tell narrative,
investigative, feature and enterprise stories on all platforms
including mobile and print. You will have the opportunity to pitch
visually innovative and original approaches to stories and to
collaborate with the audience and platform teams on social strategy
and distribution of WSJ content.Our interns are self-starters who
understand the needs of our growing audience across platforms and
are able to work independently under deadline pressure. Sound news
judgment and dedication to high journalism standards are a must.The
screening process puts heavy emphasis on work samples and prior
experience. You should have completed at least one prior internship
with another professional media organization, or published
exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.HOW
