Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working and doing business in New York City. The Division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. Design & Construction is responsible for geometric elements on our roadways that contribute to improved safety, mobility, economic activity, the environment, and other elements improving quality of life for the diverse uses of NYC streets. This unit has professional engineering oversight for changes, drawing on the expertise and talents of Civil Engineers, Urban Designers, Planners, Asset Managers, Inspectors, Administrators, Analysts, plus others to; evolve and maintain the curb geometry and street plans for all NYC's 6000+ miles of roads, create and maintain official Pavement Marking Plans, and oversee the application and refurbishment of NYC's 225 million linear feet of pavement markings (stripes, messages, colored surface treatments for bus/bike/plaza, etc.), concrete curb islands, and curb extensions.

This is an opportunity for an ambitious, motivated, and tech savvy AutoCAD professional candidate to improve safety, desirability, and operation of NYC Streets for its Design Unit, which designs and approves all geometric street changes in the city. In support of the Construction Unit, Design also prepares work order estimates from CAD and other sources. The selected candidate will function as an expert CAD administrator and power user, refining CAD standards and coordinating with associated stakeholders. The successful candidate will oversee CAD quality assurance tools & processes, regularly undertake related quality control tasks to assure use, provide automated reporting, and analyze data as requested. The selected candidate will develop, implement and evolve processes and tools to enable the use of CAD/GIS data for estimating of work order estimates; Create and enforce CAD standards required for automated estimation; Create CAD Quality Control tools to facilitate industry best practices; Oversee and guide the Document Management Team; and Proactively liaise with all CAD stakeholders through verbal and written communication. The selected candidate will be asked to work collaboratively and inclusively, seeking to cultivate continued professional development and effectively communicate with all stakeholders - including coaching procedures and standards to CAD users. 1. A master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields; or

2. A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area-wide traffic programs; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or

4. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or

5. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above.

SPECIAL NOTE:

In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements above:

To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have an additional year of experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" listed under "2" above.

To be assigned to Assignment Level III, the candidate must have an additional two years of experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" listed under "2" above.


Professional experience in CAD Quality Control/Management, preparation of Engineering Estimates and/or Contract processing. Possess expert level skills in AutoCAD, GIS, and/or quantity estimating. Familiarity with Autodesk's AEC suite. Proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and other database administration. Proactive and collaborative work style. Strong organizational, communication, administrative, writing and presentation skills. Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize responsibilities effectively in a fast paced environment. Facility for big-picture thinking.
