Job DescriptionPositions Report to: Middle School Program ManagerStart/End Date: July 5, 2022Hours: Mondays Through Thursdays 8:30 am - 1:30 pmCompensation: $20.00/hr (Subject to possible change, TBD)FLSA Status: Non-ExemptNumber of Hires: 6 Who We AreEast Harlem Scholars Academies are community-based Pre-K to 12 public charter schools operated by East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP). EHTP began in 1958 as a children's reading group and has since grown into a multi-site after-school program for traditional public school students and a network of public charter schools focused on significantly increasing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. We are on track to serve at least 25% of East Harlem students by 2025, with enrollment for this year at approximately 2200 students in our schools and after school programs. In 2020, 99% of our seniors were accepted to college, and our current scholars in college are on-track to graduate at eight times the national average of their peers.At EHTP we also aim to serve as an agent of change and thoughtfully contribute to the national fight for racial equity. Through our organization-wide commitment to anti-racism work, we prepare our scholars to effect change, challenge the status quo, and thrive in the world around them.         • Monday - Thursday, 8:30 am - 1:30 pm About the OpportunityWe believe that great educational professionals make the difference for our students; without this, a school or program cannot succeed. The Assistant Teacher plays an integral role in the program's success by supporting academic instruction in the classroom and through the implementation of program-wide student and family engagement efforts. They will partner with teachers, social workers, students, and families to ensure that all students engage in a meaningful and impactful way in the summer program.What Qualifies You
          • You hold yourself to high professional and ethical standards
          • You have at least 1 year of experience working with Elementary School students in a school or after-school setting
          • You enjoy and/or have experience working with diverse populations of students and communities
          • You believe that every student can and will learn when provided with a quality education
          • You take a strength-based approach to address student needs
          • You are willing to be flexible in your role and adapt to program and student needs
          • You are committed to continuous improvement and learning through professional development
          • You have a minimum of one to two-year's experience in relevant educational positions
          • Due to the nature of our diverse student population, Spanish speakers and other bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply Areas of Leadership
            • Collaborate closely with the Program Manager, after-school lead teachers, and social workers to provide long-term support to scholars
            • Embody and effectively model EHTP's core values for students, including consistent and timely attendance
            • Uphold classroom expectations and routines set by Lead Teacher in order to maintain a purposeful, supportive, and fun environment for learning
            • Actively build a safe and welcoming classroom community
            • Build relationships with families, students, and staff members in the after-school program
            • Support a program community where restorative practices are actively modeled and used to navigate student and community challenges
            • Demonstrate a Team First mindset, through proactive contributions to the community, and advances his/her practice through reflection, development opportunities, participation in the professional community, and actively engaging families and community members For the safety of our students and staff, East Harlem Tutorial Program requires all staff members to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
