The Provost, Professional Education is a unique and challenging opportunity to influence and lead in this work. Reporting to the President, the Provost, Professional Education leads Relay's Professional Education (PE) team to achieve key institutional milestones and outstanding institutional performance while expanding programmatic access and institutional recognition. The Professional Education team at Relay serves thousands of leaders and teachers across the United States through annual fellowship and short-course professional learning opportunities while also engaging in tailored, on-the-ground coaching for schools and districts. The Provost is responsible for the day-to-day programmatic operations and outcomes of a complex team, for envisioning and implementing the team's future strategy as it relates to growth and sustainability, and for the collective leadership of Relay GSE as a member of the organization's Executive Team. This role will lead a dynamic and growing Professional Education team at Relay, and as such, have the opportunity to innovate for, collaborate with, and learn from a strong set of experts in the work of leader and teacher development. KEY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES - Institutional

  • Collaborate with other Executive Team members to set and drive toward institutional vision, priorities, goals, and benchmarks
  • Analyze and marshal institutional data to inform institutional decision-making and drive continuous improvement
  • Work cross-functionally with a variety of Relay teams in order to ensure compliance with state and local regulations related to teacher and leader training
  • Build synergy and collaboration across programs with Relay's Provost, Teacher Preparation and Chief Strategy Officer, in pursuit of program impact, revenue strategy, and continuous improvement
  • Serve as a team and organization-wide leader in the areas of institutional DEI priorities and development Team
    • Own vision-setting, planning, leadership, goal-setting, and decision-making associated with professional education curriculum, instruction, and strategy while working collaboratively, productively, and successfully toward achieving outstanding outcomes for the institution and our participants. Direct reports to include:
    • Vice Provost of National Leadership Programs
    • Vice Provost of Regional Leadership Programs
    • Managing Director of Teacher Professional Education
    • Managing Director of Partnerships and Operations, Professional Education
    • Managing Director of Impact and Innovation, Professional Education
    • Senior Director of Special Projects, Professional Education
    • Lead and manage a team of 40+ across an increasingly complex set of workstreams, including direct individual and team management of 6+ senior leaders
    • Lead Professional Education team to outstanding experiences and performance, including superior faculty performance and staff satisfaction
    • Continue to build on the strengths of Relay's Leadership Programs while expanding access with the specific goals of increasing student diversity, enrollment, and geographic reach
    • Build on the momentum of new Teacher Professional Education work while collaborating with Relay's Chief Strategy Officer and Managing Director of Teacher Professional Education in order to set ambitious targets for growth in program offerings and revenue generated
    • Ensure strong collaboration and communication between Relay Professional Education team and Relay's Partnerships team
    • Expand access to Relay's current programs while pursuing opportunities to launch new programs with the specific goal of ensuring program diversity and financial sustainability
    • Expand institutional recognition by exploring and entering into programmatic partnerships with outstanding institutions and individuals as well as seeking out and earning endorsements from professional and government organizations
    • With the Chief Strategy Officer and the Provost, Teacher Preparation ensure the creation and implementation of a robust programmatic strategy aligned to both Relay's strategic implementation plan and the organization's theory of change Outcomes
      • Lead Relay to key institutional milestones and outstanding institutional performance, as outlined in the organization's strategic plan
      • Ensure alignment between the organization's theory of action/research agenda and Professional Education program implementation/data streams, in an effort to demonstrate program impact across a multitude of measures
      • Manage team to achieve outstanding experiences and outcomes for Professional Education participants across leader and teacher programs *Other duties as assigned SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS -
        • Advanced degree (MEd, MPA, EdD, etc.) in a related field
        • 15+ years of experience
        • 10+ years of successful senior leadership experience in PK-12 and/or higher education or education capacity-building organizations
        • Experience leading at the school and/or district level in a PK-12 educational setting, including firsthand experience providing professional development and/or leading development programs for teachers and leaders
        • Experience leading large-scale initiatives and complex teams through ambiguity and challenge within growing organizations -
        • Experience leading a team or organization which directly partners with K-12 schools and districts
        • Demonstrated commitment to Relay's values of equity, responsibility, respect, and teamwork -

        • Strong track record of achieving results through others at a large-team scale
        • Strategic and visionary problem-solver who creates and drives solutions for past issues, current issues, and in anticipation of future issues in order to clear the way for innovation and Relay's continued success
        • Experience successfully managing large budgets ($10M+) and multi-faceted, revenue-dependent programs
        • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both internal and external stakeholder groups; able to speak fluently about the educator preparation landscape at the institutional, district, school, and classroom levels
        • Team player who collaborates across and within teams in order to support solid decision-making, strategic planning, and implementation of strategy. Able to reassess and iterate with teammates to find and implement the best solutions for the institution.

COMPENSATION Relay's compensation philosophy is to pay competitively for the education nonprofit market and ensure equity across the institution. The salary range for this role is $200,000 - $230,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors including their region's cost of labor, qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside the range shown.
