status.Job Overview:Head Teacher supports the mission of the school
by delivering a highly individualized educational program in a
rich, rigorous, and nurturing environment in which students gain
the skills and confidence necessary to learn, grow, and reach their
full potential; maintain safety and well-being of the students;
provide creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum to
teach students with learning disabilities. Position is for upper
elementary division.Essential Functions:Teach a range of subjects
related to homeroom curriculum, including reading, math, writing
and social studiesEstablish class routines and behavioral
expectationsCollaborate with Assistant Teacher, Speech-Language
Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and subject area specialists
to design and implement class curriculum, as well as design and
implement individualized educational programs for each childWrite
progress reportsCommunicate with parents/guardians during
conferences, and at other times as necessary, to promote students'
social, emotional and academic progressMentor and partner with
Assistant TeacherWilling to display a commitment to anti-bias and
anti-racism work and to promoting inclusion, belonging and equity
through their work in the classroom and school communityDevelop a
joyful and productive learning community where students feel safe
to take risksPrepares and attends parent teacher conferencesAttends
and participates in cluster meetings in designated divisionAttends
faculty and staff meetings; active member of the Gaynor
communityComplete annual IEP reports and attend all IEP meeting and
Impartial Hearings as requiredSKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's
degree requiredMaster's Degree in Learning Disabilities and/or
Special EducationTwo to three years' experience as a Head Teacher
working with children with learning disabilitiesExperience working
with children with learning differences preferredExperience using
an Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction
preferredIndependent school teaching experience preferredKnowledge
of the cognitive, linguistic, and developmental needsStrong
communication and organizational skills (both written and
verbal)Sets a respectful, collaborative, and positive tone, and
recognizes our responsibility to create a diverse and inclusive
environment that supports and celebrates each individual in our
school communityAbility to be flexible to adjust with classroom
instructionEffective classroom management, communication, and
organizational skillsWill display time management to maximize
student learningSets a respectful and positive tone in the
