Middle School Assistant PrincipalHired by, reports to and evaluated by the PrincipalThe Assistant Principal is an integral part of the school's educational program. The Assistant Principal is responsible for the overall successful functioning of the middle school in student academics, adult talent, and systems.Instructional Leadership:Coordinate with principal and content specialists to support teachers developing competence through modeling, observing, providing feedback and supporting teacher reflectionObserve teachers at least twice per month and conduct post conference meetingsTrack and monitor teacher responsiveness to feedback as evidenced by implementation of strategiesEnsure that the core curricula are implemented to effectively meet the needs of studentsWork with teachers and instructional staff in establishing positive classroom climatesSupport teachers in establishing effective classroom management systems and developing students' positive social behaviorsReview teacher lesson plans for quality ensuring standards alignment, rigor, differentiation, etc.School Culture:Assist in building a school culture that evidences high expectations for both students and adultsEnsure a safe, supportive and productive environment for students, staff and familiesModel effective instructional practices in staff meetings, professional development sessions and team meetingsOversee extra-curricular activities, Summer Academy and test-prep campsSupport teachers in developing behavior intervention plans for students who struggle meeting school behavior expectationsDevelop and teach conflict resolution strategies to studentsDevelop emergency protocols for students with aggressive behaviorsServe on the Leadership Team in support of aligning school activities with our mission and goalsAssess student emotional support needs and develop plans and services to meet needsDevelop and oversee progress on the school's Social/Emotional Program Strategic Plan, which includes tangible ways to monitor student progressRecruitment and Enrollment:Develop, implement and evaluate the school's annual Lottery, Enrollment and Registration processesMaintains and updates student information, in the areas of academics, personal contact info, health and emergency info, and parental permission, using State Required database and school databaseManages student recruiting process including outreach and tours for parentsEnsures student enrollment is at the correct student countMaintains student waiting list according to State law; receives and organizes applicationsEnsures new student lottery is run in compliance with law, works with Business Leader to document process followed by an impartial party (auditor/Board Member)Transmits student transfer/withdrawal paperwork to and/or from student's former or current schoolAdditional qualifications for this position:Bilingual in english and spanish strongly preferredStrong interpersonal skillsExperience with children in a similar demographic group in an educational settingStrong organizational skillsDemonstrated verbal and written communication skillsDemonstrated ability to engage the interest of young peopleFlexible and resilient; "Never give up" mindsetDemonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of childrenDemonstrated ability to work well with parentsDemonstrated ability to work effectively as a team memberDemonstrated ability to evaluate student strengths and growth areasDemonstrated willingness to be held accountable for student resultsStrong organizational, time management, and computer skillsAll Haven Academy employees will have: a commitment to the School's Mission, a track record of success in their field, agreement with the academic goals and philosophy of the School, experience cultivating parental involvement in education, a commitment to accountability, a clear understanding of and commitment to charter schools as schools of choice for public school families, and a commitment to excellence in all respects.
