college, and beyond. Position Overview Supervised by the Assistant
Principal of Student Services, the Speech Language Pathologist
(SLP) provides services for students with speech, language, and
hearing impairments, helping students to adjust and access the
general education curriculum. The SLP collaborates with teachers to
support high impact language intervention and evaluations.
Successful NSLPs consistently help students achieve - collecting,
analyzing, and implementing data-based strategies regularly for
both the students on their caseload and also students that have
been identified as needing additional support. The SLP is in
current possession of ASHA Certification and New York State license
for Speech-Language Pathology. This position requires a positive,
flexible, solutions-oriented, organized, and innovative specialist.
Core Competencies & Responsibilities Provide evidence-based speech
and language therapy to students, implementing both pull-out and
push-in models based on individualized education plans (IEPs) and
best practices Develop and implement engaging therapy activities
and materials aligned with students' goals Foster a supportive and
inclusive classroom environment for students with speech and
language needs, enhancing access to general education and
supporting progress toward individual goals Collaborate with
teachers, learning specialists, and other service providers to
integrate speech and language goals into the general curriculum
Draft IEP reports in preparation for meetings and attend IEP
meetings as needed Provide guidance and support to teachers and
staff in assisting students with speech and language needs Maintain
regular communication with families, keeping them informed of
progress and providing guidance on supporting their child at home
Conduct speech and language screenings for students as needed Offer
support to students of various ages and linguistic backgrounds,
addressing needs through a Response to Intervention-tiered model
Participate in MTSS and IEP meetings, provide guided reading
instruction, and collaborate with contracted therapists Coach and
provide consultation for fellow speech-language therapists,
including writing annual IEP reports and conducting interim
assessments Provide consultation and professional development for
general education teachers and administrators Maintain accurate and
up-to-date records of assessments, progress notes, and therapy
plans Report progress toward IEP goals three times per year
(Goalbooks) Complete treatment notes and progress reports promptly
according to school policy Manage a detailed log of services
provided and missed due to student or therapist absences Document
all aspects of work with students in SESIS IEP according to school
and state guidelines Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an
accredited school of speech-language pathology. ASHA Certificate of
Clinical Competence Current NY license as a Speech-Language
Pathologist Two years of related experience, preferably with
elementary school-aged children Excellent time management skills,
flexibility, and ability to work independently and problem-solve
Effective communication skills and an ability to work in a
multi-disciplinary team Commitment to meeting the needs of a
diverse student population Spanish language proficiency (preferred)
