As a Sr Manager, Knowledge Engineering, you will own defining and
delivering innovative B2B e-commerce products, partnering with
business and technical teams to create and sustain complex
products.
What You'll Do (Your Responsibilities)
- Contribute to the new product direction by designing new and
extending existing annotation schemas and rules to cover new
categories
- Develop ontologies for classification and management
hierarchies, properties, and the relationships between concepts
describing product and services that will be used by millions of
people per day.
- Drive the day-to-day agile software development process and
activities of your team
- Implement tools and automate processes to decrease the human
effort required to support our core knowledge systems, and to free
up your team of ontologists, software engineers, and data
scientists to focus on complex problems and drive increased
accuracy
- Manage and execute against project plans and delivery
commitments. Report on status, milestones, and goals to
stakeholders.
- Build machine learning and NLP solutions and supporting related
efforts of multiple product teams.
- Prioritize improvements to drive your metrics-based
improvements, and lead innovation to deliver the biggest wins for
our customers.
- Hire the strongest candidates to grow the team effectively.
Continuously develop direct reports, assign work, and give feedback
to help them reach their potential.
- Leverage your knowledge and technical ability to drive the
management and analysis of extremely large and distributed data
sets housed in disparate systems.

- Experience with concept annotation and other forms of data
markup
- Experience working with speech and text language data in at
least one additional major language is a plus
- Experience in writing grammars and building FSTs stats,
Experience with statistical language modeling is a plus
What You'll Need (Education, Experience, Preferred
Certifications/Designations)
- BS/MS in Computer Science/Computational Linguistics or related
technical discipline
- 10 years total industry experience
- 2+ years of experience in people management
(development/research/linguist teams)
- 3+ years Programming in Python/Perl, C, C++, Java, or GoLang in
Linux environments
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard
data and metrics to back up assumptions and opinions
- Knowledge of best practices for software construction and
ontology planning, operations, and management
- Familiarity with B2B standards like UNSPSC, eCl@ss, SOC, and
NAICS.
- Experience with ontology data formats such as Semantic Web
(W3C), Web Ontology Language (OWL) or Resource Description
Framework (RDF)
