CoinDesk is the industry standard for institutional single and multi-asset benchmarks for crypto assets. The flagship CoinDesk Bitcoin Price Index (XBX) has been in operation continuously since 2014. Financial institutions rely on the XBX and other CoinDesk index products to benchmark billions of dollars in assets under management and to price hundreds of millions in over-the-counter transactions daily.We are looking for a candidate excited to shape this future by contributing to the crypto and blockchain industries through an industry-leading firm. This full-time role offers fully flexible time-off and location.

About the PositionWe are looking for an experienced hands-on technical leader (VP/Director)to help build out our data and index engineering team. This position will be responsible for business-critical data architecture and long-term technology decisions, and for developing and expanding the engineering team in line with our principles. A strong candidate would have experience building a team around a scalable high-availability financial data system. The candidate must be willing to be hands-on when needed (especially as the crypto market continues to grow). Expertise in Linux and AWS is essential, as well as experience in developing high-performing and reliable data pipelines.
Responsibilities

  • Enable and drive strategic growth by guiding technical decisions based on a deep understanding of data infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain data infrastructure aligned with the business vision and needs of its customers.
  • Provide team members with the processes, management, mentorship, and tools that will enable them to design and develop mission-critical engineering solutions (e.g. comprehensive knowledge base, learning opportunities, comprehensive documentation and technical standards).
  • Grow the company's technical capabilities with an emphasis on performant, scalable, and maintainable infrastructure.
  • Ensure the team members implement and adhere to security best practices.
  • Work with the product team to understand and set expectations, allocate and prioritize resources, and follow through on commitments.
  • Responsible for the well-being, retention, advancement, and performance of engineers.
    Responsibilities
    • Experience managing small-to-medium teams and successfully delivering on large initiatives.
    • Minimum of 5 years+ experience managing and mentoring team leads/managers in an engineering organization.
    • Minimum 4 years+ experience of infrastructure in cryptocurrencies, DEFI, indices, or traditional capital markets.
    • Experience working with Product and Sales teams to support capacity planning.
    • In-depth knowledge of technology best practices (Distributed systems, Security, DevOps) and the ability to leverage them to advance team and business success.
    • Proficient in Linux, AWS, and Redis
    • Excellent networking knowledge with an emphasis on the network, transport, session, presentation, and application layers.
    • Deep understanding of distributed, high-availability, and scalable infrastructure.
    • Experience growing an engineering team at a fast-growing organization.
    • Willingness to drive the day-to-day operations of an engineering organization. Preferred
      • 10+ years of experience with Linux
      • 3+ years running bare-metal systems
      • 3+ years experience in AWS administration
      • Experience with HAProxy
      • Experience with PostgreSQL TechnologiesAWS, Linux, Redis, Python, Node.js, C/C++, HAProxy, Javascript, Python, Git, PostgreSQL
