America Job Description: Johnson & Johnson's is recruiting for a
HVAC/Stationary Engineer located in New Brunswick, NJ. The
HVAC/Stationary Engineer inspects and checks equipment on a
frequency basis to predict and anticipate problems in order for
work to be performed on a planned, scheduled basis rather than an
emergency failure. Operates and keeps in good operating condition
gas fired low pressure hot water boilers, combustion control
systems, pumps, electrical substations, switchboards, cooling
towers, steam generators, high temperature converters and their
pumps, water treatment equipment on all water systems, air
conditioning equipment, air compressors and auxiliary equipment to
obtain the highest efficiency in meeting plant and office
requirements for heat, power, light, water, and air. Uses test
instruments to detect need for repair and adjustment. Works from
blueprints, diagrams, or specifications. In performance of these
duties, will be required to: At start of shift, checks schedule and
operating conditions by referring to log sheets and other reports.
Checks with Engineer on preceding shift for any special
instructions or conditions. Operates and monitors Honeywell
building automation system computer. Follows schedule in checking
operations and equipment; reads gauges, recording instruments and
charts, and interprets readings. Logs specified information. If
observations and readings indicate other than normal conditions,
diagnoses cause of trouble and makes necessary adjustments or
changes to correct trouble. If schedule changes or emergencies make
it necessary, makes necessary operational and/or mechanical
adjustments to meet conditions. Maintains proper water level,
temperature and pressure by manual use of controls if automatic
controls do not function properly. Checks combustion control system
and, if necessary, makes necessary manual adjustments if automatic
controls are not operating properly. Makes repairs and adjustments
to HVAC equipment. Tests boiler water, cooling towers, plant water,
etc., and adds, checks, and regulates necessary chemicals. As
specified, checks steam generators, cooling towers, hot water
converters, air compressors, and heating and ventilating units
throughout plant. Makes necessary repairs or adjustments to
maintain operation of said equipment. Makes adjustments and
replacement to H&V unit controls or determines repairs needed
and notifies supervisor. As required, makes out mechanical orders
and, in emergencies, calls for mechanical assistance. Checks
equipment for proper lubrication and keeps equipment and work areas
clean and orderly. Responsible for the shutting down and starting
up of utilities for any or all sections of plant as scheduled or
directed. Maintain electric fire pump. Be familiar with all types
of refrigerant gasses and fluids. Have and maintain a good overall
knowledge of all types of refrigeration systems such as:
compressors, centrifugal, absorption, etc. Operate, and service air
and electrical systems for air conditioning, refrigeration, and
heating controls. Diagnose mechanical and electrical troubles and
repair in a reasonable length of time. Use test instruments such
as: electronic leak detector, temp and humidity recorder,
psychrometer, velometer, ammtherm, voltmeter, ammeter, micrometer,
tachometer, hermetic analyzer, dial indicator, etc., and interpret
readings as required. Does simple pipe fitting work such as
installing valves, making temporary hook ups for cleaning
condensors, pack chilled water pumps, etc. Assist with simple sheet
metal work to install duct thermometers, immersion thermostats,
safety thermostats, etc. Maintenance checks and operations on
assigned equipment. Work from blueprints, diagrams, specifications,
etc. Also uses pressure-temperature tables and psychometric charts.
Work from ladders and scaffold, as required. Keep work areas neat
and orderly; conform to all safety rules and regulations.
Replacement of air filters. Makes out daily record sheet of work
performed. Keeps abreast of changes in trade practices and
equipment, particularly as they may apply to Johnson & Johnson
equipment and processes. Secures samples as scheduled from other
water using facilities, such as steam boilers, generators, chilled
water systems, perimeter heating, etc. Tests samples and records
test results. Adjusts chemical feed systems or adds chemicals as
needed, based on test results. Records corrective action. Makes out
weekly report showing daily test results, water usage, chemical
usage, etc., for general plant facilities. Maintains supplies of
chemicals and notifies supervisor when supplies are needed. This is
a union position, Workers United, affiliated with SEIU Local 630.
Key Qualifications: High School Graduate with technical schooling
preferred. 2 years of relative experience in steam & hot water
generation, refrigeration, electrical theory, computer operations
and mechanical repairs is required. Working rotating shifts and
overtime as directed is required. Must hold a current New Jersey
Boiler Operator License, Blue Seal required. Computer skills in MS
Office (Word, Excel) is preferred. HVAC experience is strongly
preferred. Experience working with building automation systems,
such as Honeywell is preferred. Johnson & Johnson is an Equal

range for this position is : This position pays $ 42.96 per hour
with a 1.25 shift differential for second and third shift work.
This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement in a Union
