Associate Director, Institutional Research and Effectiveness Posted On: October 18, 2019 Hours: Full Time Description: Applications are being accepted for the full-time position of associate director of institutional effectiveness. The associate director reports to the director, Strategic Initiatives and Institutional Effectiveness and will support institutional research and assessment efforts at the Cooper Union. In this capacity, the associate director will conduct statistical analysis for internal and external reporting and strategic planning. The associate director supports the director in maintaining and using data to support effectiveness across three Schools and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The associate director will support the deans, faculty and staff in identifying and implementing institutional research priorities and assessment activities that foster program efficacy and student success; and the Planning and Assessment Council on developing an agenda that will support course and program assessment including the identification and assessment of learning outcomes. The position also coordinates and assists the director in developing and implementing school-wide efforts to collect, analyze, interpret, and disseminate institutional data, findings and recommendations for purposes of curricular enhancement, strategic planning and decision-making. The associate director supports several key institutional reporting functions including CDS, IPEDS, and NYSED reports. Additional duties are indicated below. In collaboration with the director:

  • Develops, implements and manages plans for data management (including clean-up), information sharing and dissemination through different data visualization tools and communication channels.
  • Develop and conducts standard institutional reports on enrollment and headcount; persistence, retention, graduation and equity metrics; enrollment including academic and demographic trends; research using institutional data to evaluate programs, assess needs, support strategic planning, and provide analytical guidance as needed.
  • Provide support in the academic and non-academic program review processes, as well as participates and provides support in all other School-wide assessment processes.
  • Actively participates in accreditation efforts.
  • As part of the institutional effectiveness team, supports data efficacy, organizes, and updates document and data dictionaries; maintains data protocols.
    • Manage surveys, questionnaires and other data-gathering instruments administered by the Office.
    • Manages a library of institutional planning and research documents.
    • Provides support to ad hoc requests; particularly in analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data in response to ongoing strategic planning as well as compliance needs.
    • Support the efficacy of pre-college programs. Design, manage and maintain database, data collection and reporting for pre-college outreach programs in Art and other new pre-college outreach programs as such programs are created. Support pre-college program staff in data management / data collection protocols that will facilitate rich analysis and reporting. Provide guidance to program directors to fulfill funder reports. (This will entail a forensic review of existing databases and data collected in the pre-college outreach programs). Qualifications A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6-years of responsible experience. An advanced degree in higher education, college student learning and development, measurement and/ or statistics, or other relevant area is preferred. Experience with the following is preferred:
      • Statistical analysis and interpretation
      • Ellucian databases, data extraction, manipulation and visualization
      • SPSS or similar software for descriptive and inferential statistical analysis.
      • Business intelligence, reporting tools, and relational databases.
      • Microsoft Office, including Excel and Access.
      • Tableau, Power BI, Power Pivot, and SQL. Candidate must have excellent organizational, oral, written and presentation skills, with attention to details and deadlines; and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse, internal and external constituencies.
