Under the leadership of the Director of Housing and Residential
Life, the Assistant Director is responsible for day-to-day
operations of an assigned residential community. The Assistant
Director adjudicates issues of student conduct, supervises Resident
Advisers, and Summer Conference Assistants ( SCA ) students
employees. The Assistant Director will also take lead in different
department functions such as summer conferences, operations,
Living-Learning Communities and with staff training and
development. The Assistant Director also participates in an on-call
rotation for after hour emergencies.
- Recruit, train, hire, supervise, schedule, evaluate student
staff (RA's and SCA staff).
- Provide support during large scale events (move-in,
orientation, department/division wide events, Fab Fridays, Open
House, etc.). Provide support to summer conference groups and
- Lives on site and is available to students and others on campus
in the event of an emergency. Serves as a liaison for Upstate
campus support offices.
- Adjudicates issues of student conduct and provide support and
education for students who are struggling at the university.
- Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned residential area
including addressing student issues and supervising Resident
Advisers. Additionally, assist the HRL maintenance/custodial staff
by executing regular health/safety checks as well as conducting
regular rounds in assigned community. Conduct monthly key inventory
for community (hard key access).
- Be knowledgeable of StarRez software and utilize reports and
- Assists with Cbord CS Gold student ID access, Persona. Assists
with reviewing maintenance work orders and SchoolDude submissions
from students. Assists in the collection of data and generating
various reports related to enrollment, budgets, and historical
- Responsible for Summer Resident check in and check out
processes and evaluation of camps and reservations. Provides
day-to-day supervision of assigned summer residential area
including addressing issues from students, interns and guests.
Supervising Summer Conference Assistants. Minimum Qualifications
(Classified and Unclassified positions) Bachelor's degree and 1
year related experience in a student services field. Programming
and supervising experience required. Valid driver's license, a good
driving record, and a successful background check are required.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree strongly preferred.
Experience in campus housing/residential life. Experience with
Banner, StarRez (Housing Assignment Software), Maxient (Student
Conduct Software), CS Gold, and Persona. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Qualities should include outstanding organization, leadership, and
communication skills. Strong desire to work with and collaborate
with others inside and outside of the department. Innovative ideas.
Programming and supervising experience. Knowledge of relevant
regulations, policies, procedures, and practices pertaining to the
State of SC and a public university. Must be computer literate and
proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Must be able to learn
other software applications as needed. Ability to work with people
from different backgrounds. May be required to represent department
at Fab Friday, Open House. Evening and weekend hours required
during peak times of year (August, MoveUP and January Opening).
