Your Team Reporting into Senior Director of Corporate Communications, Krista Ellingson, the Manager, Strategic Communications - Public Relations is an intermediate/senior-level role that assists in the development and execution of company-wide communication strategies that position us a global leader who reimagines real estate, enhance corporate reputation and improve public perception with a broad range of stakeholders. This seasoned professional has experience in multiple aspects of communication and can be flexibly deployed across various development investment endeavors and projects where business and/or social risk is expected to be high. This person proactively pre-empts and mitigates risks to the overall Brookfield Properties reputation, and helps others integrate our brand position and reputation proof points into communication channels and messaging platforms. This role shares after-hours emergency on-call duties with the Sr Director, Strategic Communications and Manager, Reputation Management. Once cross-border travel reopens, it is expected there will be travel associated with this role. Your Key Deliverables Strategic Consultant * Consult with investment and mixed-use development and operations leaders, where strategic communications counsel and support is valued to help solve problems and achieve business outcomes* Strong emphasis on interpersonal communication, bridging the gap between Communications and related functions, such as Marketing, Community Relations and Government Affairs* Like us, you are an innovator in your field. While you may apply proven communications strategies to influence stakeholder behaviours, you also approach problem-solving with creativity and fresh ideas to determine how best to tell an impactful story* Proactively anticipate and identify, flag and prioritize issues that have market-based reputational implications (positive and negative) and develop plans to address* Cultivate and expand partner relationships by developing knowledge of land and real estate industry; local and state laws/regulations that impact us, company and brand strategies; and their business, products, services, and stakeholders* Execute key aspects of communications strategies, with particular emphasis on writing key messages, supporting documents, news articles, collateral, etc* Engage with and guide communications resources to plan, conceive, develop and implement communication solutions, including range of traditional and non-traditional venues, media, channels and tactics* Plan and/or manage the measurement of the effectiveness / ROI of communications* Enable partners to drive internal change management and communications needs through a self-serve internal communications system* Collaborate with Government Affairs, Community Relations, Marketing, Branding and Reputation Management and across the business to bring new ideas forward on how best to tell an impactful story Stakeholder Mapping and Understanding * Work closely with leadership and business leaders to identify key stakeholder groups including opponents and influencers* Use listening techniques to assess how stakeholders feel us and our footprint in their community, and the channels where they receive, digest and share information* Define benchmarks and standards to measure the impact of stakeholder engagement initiatives on targeted business outcomes Center of Expertise (Media Relations & Social Media) * Support crisis and issues management processes* Champion our social media policies and partner with various leaders to leverage owned social media for thought leadership and advocacy storytelling* Contribute to national brand building campaigns to reach key stakeholders through owned and earned channels and platforms* Monitor issues and analyzes if company's position or view should evolve or change Brand Champion * Champion and adhere to the organization's brand identity and guidelines* Champion the cultivation of a strong corporate reputation* Ensure positioning / key messages align with our Brand & Reputational pillars* Brief senior leaders on trends and opportunities to enhance Brookfield Properties' brand and reputation as a sustainable developer Cross-functional collaboration and teamwork * A master at connecting the dots within a large, complex organization* Identify and connect collaboration across teams and internal partners* Share information and updates with relevant internal partners* Communicate with teammates and leader daily, helping with projects as needed* Encourage teamwork and conflict resolution; be recognized as a strong resource company-wide; seek opportunities to develop self and become a coach to others Must Haves * Bachelor Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Community Relations required* Member of IABC, CPRS or PRSA, IAP2* Minimum 10 years of direct experience with exposure to publicly traded company and/or land development* Strong executive presence. You easily synthesize complex ideas and present at the senior leader level* Develop external communications strategies that raise our profile and reputation as a sustainable developer* Leverage various research tools to build meaningful content aligned with business objectives* Monitor news, economic, media and industry trends to deliver timely and strategic advice* Excellent writing and communication skills with proven ability to apply them as a creative tool to engage people* Collaborate effectively and gain the trust and respect of others, particularly those who disagree* You are resilient, agile and responsive - always game to explore different paths to achieve an outcome* Experience in deciphering audience data or issues to spot the underlying, subtle implications often missed by others, which helps leaders with risk management and strategic decision making* While you are not a community investment specialist, you understand how Community Relations, Government Affairs and Marketing work together to demonstrate a positive presence in the communities where we operate* Your curious how this industry and our business works.
