POSITION SUMMARYHeadquartered in New York City, Thatcher+Co. is a boutique global corporate communications and public relations firm with proven experience in both private and public sectors, crossing a range of strategic industries including technology, energy, education, entertainment, media and nonprofit.
We are currently seeking a Director to join our award-winning team at its New York City office (located in Times Square but currently COVID remote). We strongly encourage those with technology (B2B and B2C) or energy experience to apply but also welcome PR generalists.
Current or previous PR agency experience is a requirement. The ideal candidate will have between five and eight years of PR experience with a majority of them at a PR agency. The candidate must have excellent client relations skills, strong written communications skills as well as excellent media relations skills that include regularly pitching media.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Overseeing client accounts, including a commitment to generating results, frequent client interaction and supervising team members- Implementing public relations campaigns, including creating messaging/materials, engaging in media outreach, contact lists and reporting/metrics- Cultivating and enhancing meaningful relationships with the media, key influencers, clients and other targeted external audiences- Tracking, analyzing and reporting traditional, broadcast and social results to clients using a range of tools (e.g. Cision, Meltwater, Critical Mention, BuzzSumo and others)- Managing junior staff and providing direction related to account work and overall agency growth (i.e. business development and professional networking)- Engaging in research to influence client campaigns and new business presentations- Creating content for social media, both written and visual- Developing thought leadership content for social channels
REQUIREMENTSThe successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter who is pro-active and process-oriented with high attention to detail. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and an effective collaborator, looking to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven atmosphere and able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelors degree in communications, public relations, English, journalism (or related degrees)- Five to eight years of public relations experience, with at least two years within an agency environment- Personable, tech savvy, and results-oriented- Able to manage multiple relationships simultaneously (e.g., media relationships and requests, client deliverables and monitoring)- Strong written skills, including proficiency in writing news releases, op-eds, blogs, Q&As, messaging documents, client updates and memos, new business proposals, engaging social media content, etc.- Strong media relations skills including identifying key reporters for pitches, identifying pitching opportunities, drafting compelling pitches, conducting media outreach and follow-up- History of managing social accounts (content creation, follower growth, community management)- Personal and professional experience with social media (especially LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook) including experience with social media marketing and management toolsby Jobble
