Job Description:

As the leader of the Creative Technology team, you will set LP and our client partners up for success by leading a team of artists, creative technologists, engineers, and designers, while establishing, refining, communicating and maintaining effective technology development and deployment processes, practices, and procedures for the studio.

The Director of Creative Technology supports constant and open collaboration to enable the CT team to do its best work within the larger interdisciplinary creative ecosystem of Local Projects. The Director leads the team with an expert understanding of their domain, a passion for learning and solving problems, and is constantly pushing creative and technical boundaries.

    Requirements

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Discipline Leadership
    • Lead a growing team inclusive of full-stack, back-end, and UX talent
    • Advance the studio's application architecture and best practices with an eye to implementation. Note that coding/implementation may be expected, but the role's primary function is oversight and guidance (versus day-to-day programming)
    • Direct technology development and deployment strategies including server setup
    • Implement a sound standardized testing process for more efficient QA protocols
    • Partner with the COO and Managing Director to ensure utilization targets are met and resourcing decisions are sound
    • Create digital solutions that address a range of challenges, translating user needs and real-world constraints into elegant, effective, and technically sustainable experiences
    • Directing, managing, and mentoring the collaborative and talented group of Creative Technologists, UX specialists, and interns
    • Create forums for the team to develop a common vocabulary, concept, and process
    • Establish, iterate, and maintain adherence to the team's application of processes, tools, and templates
    • Manage the team's growth and development via annual/semi-annual reviews, weekly one-on-ones, professional road mapping, job and compensation adjustments, conflict resolution, and professional development opportunities
    • Fulfill all department admin requirements related to staffing, resourcing, PTO approvals, and all/any other team admin support
    • Work with other discipline directors/PMs for resourcing and staffing needs
    • Maintain a pipeline of Creative Technology team candidates, conduct interviews, and assess/manage hiring requirements, in coordination with HR and others as needed
    • Maintain a roster of temp staff for freelance resourcing needs

      Project Leadership
      • Partner with creative leads to identify technology solutions for creative ideas and challenges
      • Lead initial ROM budgeting and scoping for software/hardware expectations
      • Define and improve technical contracts and scopes for software and hardware
      • Partner with creative teams to pinpoint prototyping opportunities
      • Oversee projects assigned to all creative technology staff to ensure best practices and quality control measures are met.
      • Work with CT to research, design, and implement various IT solutions required for completion
      • Collaborate with design and production teams to bring prototypes into production-ready products and experiences
      • Ensure team projects are completed to schedule without compromising quality
      • Partner with Design and Project Management teams to create experiences that are intelligently optimized across technical, creative, and budgetary constraints.
      • Review design documents and create software requirements
      • Work with the design team to create 2D and 3D digital asset production pipelines

        Required Skills/Abilities:
        • Ability to work in and experience with a bespoke creative project environment
        • Great interpersonal and management skills, knowing how to prioritize and address requests for guidance or information from your team and members of the studio
        • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively across a range of people that may have varying technical comprehension abilities including clients, stakeholders, vendors, and team members
        • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
        • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
        • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
        • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
        • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.
        • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
        • Ability to drive a multidisciplinary meeting to a series of actionable tasks for your team, as well as other teams
        • Media System Design experience- design, coding, installation, management of large scale interactive spaces from start to finish leveraging both custom and commercial solutions
        • Understanding of real-time interactive graphics programming APIs and engines (OpenGL, Vulcan, Unity, Unreal)
        • Understanding of sensor systems and associated software (Depth cameras, OpenCV)
        • Working experience with complex software system design
        • Experience writing software design documents
        • Knowledge of JIRA or other project management software
        • Interactive and/or game development experience
        • Working knowledge across a range of platforms and technical stacks:
          • Web: JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Three.js, Node, Electron
          • Server: AWS, Docker, Postgres
          • Interactive: Unity, Unreal, Cinder, openFrameworks, TouchDesigner
          • Mobile: Swift, MDM

            Nice-to-Haves:
            • Passion and experience in art and cultural work
            • Understanding of physical architecture, rigging, electrical systems, low voltage signaling systems, etc.
            • Understanding of linear and 3D media (codecs, bitrates, throughput, character rigging, etc.)
            • Experience with built environments and collaborating with AV partners.
            • Enterprise software development experience. We often work with large codebases and multiple integrations.
            • Working knowledge of "build versus buy" strategy for various software components
            • Proven experience creating high-level estimates with thoughtful assumptions and dependencies
            • Familiarity with software development methodologies like Agile, Scrum, Kanban

              Additional Requirements:
              • Travel required
              • Must be able to work on-site in our NYC Studio when required
