WHIN is currently seeking a high performing ELA Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) ready to help grow a unique school community where compassion, kindness, and curiosity drive each and every day.

Specifically, the ELA Director of Curriculum and Instruction at WHIN reports to the Principal and is primarily responsible for ensuring all students are learning his/her best by ensuring teachers are fully prepared, supported, and performing at a high caliber.

Specifically, the ELA DCI is responsible for:
Managing the implementation and design of a school wide ELA curriculum.
Aligning the ELA curriculum with other school curriculums, NY state standards, and any other scientifically based benchmarks.
Leading the development, implementation, and adjustment of grade level scope and sequence and pacing calendars.
Manage student literacy and social studies assessment schedules, logistics, and data.
Observing and coaching teachers daily.
Supporting teachers to develop his/her instructional strategies.
Contributing to the evaluation of academic staff.
Preparing and conducting professional development, data review sessions, and content-based team meetings.
Provide professional development to all staff on best ELA and social studies instructional practices
Determining and coordinating high quality internal and external professional development opportunities for staff
Collaborating with staff to build a culture of high academic achievement.

Qualifications for the ELA DCI are:
Master's Degree in education or related field
Three years (minimum) classroom experience
Expertise in Literacy, social studies, and early learning processes
Experience in urban schools and/or communities
Strong organization skills
Keen analytical problem-solving skills
Ability to work well on a team and communicate effectively
Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic, and exciting school
Ability to work autonomously as well as take coaching as needed
School leadership, teacher mentor, content coaching experience preferred
A sense of humor and kindness towards your colleagues

Advanced proficiency in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred
Bilingual (Spanish)
Music performance
Early Childhood teaching experience and/or certifications
Project Based Learning and Inquiry Based Learning
Responsive Classroom and Restorative Justice models
NY State and Common Core learning Standards
Benchmark, Formative, Summative, and Cornerstone Assessments
Cross Curricular Planning and Implementation
Demonstrated success raising achievement levels of all students
