Job Description:

The Associate Director, Data Scientist leads and manages advanced data analytics and modeling solutions to help Member Supervision effectively and efficiently examine, investigate and surveil Broker Dealers, registered representatives and other U.S. market participants. This role is responsible for partnering with key stakeholders across the business and technology and for leading the design and delivery of analytic solutions to maximize business outcomes. This role will also assume responsibilities for the technical mentoring and development of junior staff.Essential Job Functions:

  • Conduct research and development in areas such as the application of data science, financial engineering, financial theory and applied mathematics, as well as computation and the practice of programming
  • Lead and manage projects by working efficiently with business stakeholders, the Project Management Office, engineering teams and other data scientists
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff in best practices for model design, data pipelining, analytic tools development and software development; suggest and enforce best practices through code reviews.
  • Engage with business unit leaders to understand and collect business requirements
  • Work with Head Data Scientist to evaluate pros and cons of project approaches and the Return on Investment for project initiatives, present results to senior managementEducation & Experience Requirements:
    • Candidate must possess a degree in Engineering, mathematics, statistics, computer science, actuarial science, economics, or related technical field.
    • Advanced and/or doctorate degree preferred in financial engineering, computational or mathematical finance, computer science, statistics, or related field.
    • Strong background in machine learning, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, statistics, or probability at the graduate school level or higher, as well as experience creating predictive analytics with noisy data.
    • 2+ years experiences and knowledge in finance and compliance industry and ability to apply the optimal solution to data driven compliance analytics in the field of quantitative research and the specialized area of financial engineering, data science, or risk analytics as it relates to the securities industry.
    • Knowledge of financial engineering to analyze risky portfolios covering a wide range of financial instruments, including equities, fixed income, currencies, futures, commodities, and/or derivatives.
    • Experience in advanced statistical methods, Bayesian learning techniques, pattern recognition and outlier detection algorithms, and building predictive models using both statistical and machine learning approaches.
    • Experience in natural language processing, especially in information extraction and text classification will be a plus.
    • Experience in fast prototyping using common data scientist toolkits: Python/R, Plotly, Shiny, Spark, Presto, Tensorflow, PyTorch.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; must possess the ability to clearly communicate with the business about hypotheses, prototypes, solutions, and complex mathematical concepts both verbally and in presentations
