Job DescriptionEarly Childhood Program DirectorSt. Barnabas Elementary School, Woodlawn, BronxSt. Barnabas Elementary School, in the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, is seeking a highly qualified, certified Early Childhood Director for the 2022-2023 academic year. St. Barnabas Elementary School currently operates a UPK program as part of its educational offerings.The successful candidate will be committed to education, be an excellent promoter of the school, and insist on program excellence. The candidate must be a collaborative decision maker working with the school leadership, faculty, staff and parents in overseeing every aspect of the PreK for All program. An innovative vision of education for the 21st century that includes knowledge of early childhood education and current teaching methodologies is critical to success. Familiarity with Article 43 protocols, navigating the IEP/IESP process with the DOE, and working with service providers is also necessary. The Early Childhood Director serves as the main liaison with the NYC Division of Early Childhood and is responsible for overseeing all educational and operational aspects of the UPK program in compliance with contractual obligations.Successful candidates must also demonstrate strengths in organizational leadership, data-driven decision-making, interpersonal relationships and communication, effective supervision of instruction and assessment and leading professional development. A dynamic leader that demonstrates professionalism, leadership skills, and organizational ability is desired for this position. The Early Childhood Director must have the ability to relate well with children, parents, teachers, and the community at large, honor the rich traditions of the school and work collaboratively with the Principal, Regional Superintendent and the Associate Superintendent of Early Childhood to lead the program.Core Competencies:

  • Successful teaching and leadership experience as an early childhood educator
  • Familiarity with the NYC Department of Education PKFA/3KFA policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of New York State Early Childhood Learning Standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NYC Early Childhood Framework for Quality
  • Understanding of and respect for the developmental, cultural, and linguistic diversity that is part of the richness of the NYC early childhood landscape
  • High expectations for instruction and social emotional support for all students
  • Ability to successfully lead and coach early childhood staff using research-based best practices aligned with the highest rating expectations of ECERS-3 and CLASS
  • Commitment to leading staff in providing rich and meaningful family engagement support and resources so as to promote the extension of learning in the home
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, verbal and written communication skillsCore Roles/Responsibilities:The Early Childhood Program Director serves as the Instructional Leader for the early childhood program in an ADNY elementary school. In this role he/she:
    • Ensures program compliance with the ADNY and NYCDOE Policies and Procedures
    • Ensures high quality implementation of the Units of Instruction
    • Ensures the implementation of Positive Behavior Guidance
    • Supervises staff in providing a program that meets the varied needs of the children and families served by the program.
    • Conducts daily walk-throughs, models best practices and provides formative feedback to staff
    • Trains and coaches teaching staff to meet program standards
    • Uses ECERS and CLASS evaluations to plan for and implement ongoing program support
    • Works with school Principal to evaluate staff performance
    • Uses student and program assessment data to work with staff to meet the needs of all students
    • Manages and assists in timely completion of all paperwork relating to the programQualifications:
      • Master of Education in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education or a related field (required)
      • Current New York State Teaching Certification in Early Childhood or Childhood Teaching (required)
      • At least 3-5 years of experience as a teacher with classroom experience including 3 years of experience as a Lead Teacher in an Early Childhood classroom (required)
      • Experience working successfully in an inclusive and diverse work environment
      • Proficient in the use of technology (social media, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, ability to learn various educational communication platforms)
      • First Aid and CPR certification preferred
      • Bilingual language skills preferred
      • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (required)Other:
        • If offered the position, clearance in the NYC PETS system will be required.
