Department of Social Work (MSW) - Req Number: 2800796 Job Title:Manager Social Work - MSW Roles & Responsibilities: Responsible for overseeing and directing activities within assigned clinical social services program. Monitors and evaluates services provided and takes appropriate steps to revise or supplement program services. Supervises and coordinates work of professional and support social work staff. Is responsible for the collaboration with other disciplines in the area of assigned responsibility. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Monitors and evaluates services provided; identifies and assesses need for new or revised program services; develops, secures approval of, and implements approved program service. 2. Oversees and directs social work program. Provides professional and administrative guidance to assigned subordinates engaged in providing social work services to patients and family members in response to social and/or environmental difficulties which interfere with obtaining maximum benefit from medical care. 3. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with various Hospital departments and outside agencies in order to coordinate social work functions with other patients services, to gather and exchange patient information, and to elicit cooperation. 4. Interviews, recommends hiring, schedules, assigns work to, and evaluates the work of assigned subordinates. Recommends particular recognition, discipline and, if necessary, discharge of assigned professional and support employees. 5. Develops, secures approval of, and implements policies and procedures for assigned programs. Assists in developing plans and budgets for area of responsibility and participates in developing and implementing department-wide policies and procedures. 6. Oversees development and implementation of effective educational orientation programs by Preceptors, for assigned staff and fieldwork students. 7. Provides direct social work services as time permits in order to maintain professional expertise and in response to workload or staffing shortages. 8. Keeps current regarding government and community social service programs and regulations, and maintains professional skills through participation in appropriate educational or development activities. 9. Develops study ideas and encourages research, both within the Department and collaboratively. 10. Must constantly review the deployment of staff in order to assure the most effective use of resources. 11. Must be able through practice to identify ongoing educational needs and assist in the staff development programs in accordance. 12. Develops and monitors educational programs for health professionals and students within and outside the Medical Center through activities such as participating on committees, consultations, planning courses within the School of Medicine, and teaching in Community Medicine.
