Position: Operations & Supply Chain DirectorLocation: Ridgefield, NJ - Onsite Position - No Remote OptionBackground & Purpose of the RoleThe role demands a capable and experienced Operations & Supply Chain professional to create, build and drive the strategic programs fundamental to a $100MM food import and distribution organization.Use your strategic management knowledge and skills to assess the needs, present a plan to management and have it accepted, and immediately set about building the department and team to maximize efficiency & productivity using modern technology.Culimer/CCL is a sustainable food brand made up of smart, creative, thoughtful people who are passionate about using their work as a force for good. Our core product is SuperFrozen or ULT -76F product. Commonly referred to as cryogenic preservation, it is the only all-natural way to preserve high value food such as tuna, yellowtail, wagyu beef, and so on.Currently operating in the sushi space with a "b2b" omni-channel approach, we are rapidly scaling and working to build a trade brand that will push the sushi industry in a more sustainable direction.Operations & Supply Chain is the other side of the coin to Quality Assurance & Food Safety. Working together, you will deliver wholesome food ingredients on time, within budget, and without stockouts.This role is highly visible and requires superior presentation and communication skills, with a strong ability to work proactively and autonomously. CCL/Culimer follow Top Grading as a practice to build out the team with A-players.Who You Are and What You'll DoYou will review the current scenario, develop a business plan, have it accepted, build the infrastructure, build the team, polish the SOP's, and other requirements to support a $100M international food import and sales organization. You will coordinate, organize and oversee all activities involved in the movement of the company's products.You will build and manage internal teams who integrate across the company to deliver on the business plan. Engaging with external partners such as vendors, logistics providers, customshouse brokers, 3PL, and more, you shall provide timely feedback and guidance for both subordinates and fellow executives on operations and supply related issues.The company is GFSI certified to BRCGS A&B v2, has MSC/ASC Chain Of Custody certification, and is on the path to B Corp certification. Working with 3PL in Perth Amboy-New Jersey, Kansas City-Missouri, and Los Angeles-California, pick-pack-ship is a key activity and live inventory management at all times is a fundamental requirement.SuperFrozen product (ULT or -76 -F) is an underdeveloped logistical supply chain in North America. You will work to develop logistical solutions across the US and Canada. The role is presented daily with challenges to find solutions where currently there is no solution. Creativity and ingenuity and indefatigable positivity are necessary attributes.You will develop, in concert with the management team, a 12-quarter business plan in the vein of Scaling Up and 3-HAG Way.You will lead the recruitment and training of a team of operations A-Players to support clients both internally and externally.Supply Chain OverviewTeamYou shall be responsible to build and manage a team of A-players delivering world class service every day. CCL/Culimer import over 200 containers per year, spend over $1M on freight, and over $700,000 on third party frozen storage. Drayage exceeds $200,000 and generally - logistics is the largest expense line item for the company after payroll.ResponsibilitiesStrategicBuild the supply chain department and teamCollaborate with Business Development, Purchasing, QA, and Client Success teamsIntegrate closely with QA - supply chain is the tactical partner to the strategic QA department.Determine key supply chain KPIs and develop live dashboards as necessaryContinuous process engineering for improvementsWork with finance, business development and purchasing team to determine best vendors and distribution partnersPartners with the management team to develop and execute supply chain initiatives, sourcing, logistics, warehousing, contracting, and negotiations, as it relates to the company's presence on an international level.Develop long range logistics strategies to support the growth of the organization in a cost-effective manner while improving service and reliabilityCreate transportation capacity strategies and develop contingency plans to cost-effectively support varying levels of company sales and changes to supply/demand patterns.Establish a routine of regular vendor reviews to ensure best arrangements and capacity availability in peak periodsDevelop and implement best practices to drive efficiency, reduce cost, and improve serviceIdentify, develop and implement shipping visibility tools to proactively manage the logistics networkDay to Day operationsImport of > 250 containers annuallyResearch & management of ocean contracts including import logisticsEnsure best rates are optioned to for expedited services when required (Ocean, Truck and Air)Partner with Controller to manage and report on all costsDevelop and utilize key performance indicators (KPIs), metrics and periodic reporting to help drive execution, process uniformity and compliance across all divisions, regions, and with all transportation providers.Standardize logistics processes, ensuring implementation of best practices across the companyManagement of small parcel program for the organizationManagement of customs compliance program and ensure adherence to all governmental policiesTeamBuild, in concert with Employee Success manager, a team of A-Players that exceed expectations. Provide ongoing development and coaching to your teamDevelop a customer service mentality for the team and drive to exceed expectationsBuild relationships and trust with cross functional partnersBuild a team culture of continuous improvementPerform other duties and special projects as needed.Preferred Qualifications & CompetenciesVerifiable advanced Supply Chain/Operations management with a history of developing systemsCritical thinker demonstrating complex problem-solving skills and a data-driven approach to decision makingSound business judgment to determine project performance and financial viabilityProven track record of managing teams (at least 3 years) and of developing people - you know how to motivate and get the best work out of every person who you work withYou lead with humility, respect, and empathy, you give and take feedback constructively, and you do not shy away from having difficult conversations and resolving conflictsYou have strong analytical skills and the ability to tackle problems logically.
