The Managing Director for Social Services, Wellness, and Parent Engagement is a key strategic position responsible for leading the organization's mental health, wellness, social services, and parent engagement programs, and initiatives. The Programs under this portfolio include The Baby College, GRADS Early Head Start Program, and Three Year old Journey-which are the critical first steps in HCZ's cradle-through-career pathways to upward mobility-and offer parents of children ages 0-3 a strong understanding of child development, early literacy skills building and the skills to raise happy, healthy babies; Promise Academy Social Work, HCZ Social Services, Reproductive Health, and Wellness Programs, which offer holistic, trauma-informed mental health, social services, and educational programming and interventions to families, participants, and community across the Harlem Children's Zone. The primary objective of the Managing Director of Social Services, Wellness, and Parent Engagement is to enhance supportive approaches that help maximize the success of HCZ youth and other target community members and constituents through holistic, inclusive, social services interventions that are research-based, founded on best practices necessary to support participants and families achieve their goals and mitigate against risks. This role serves as a member of HCZ's Senior Leadership Team and reports to the Senior Managing Director of Programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of 6 masters level Directors with administrative oversight of 7 Social Services, Mental Health, Wellness, and Parent Education programs comprised of 100+ Full-time and Part-time staff members
  • Budgetary management of several million dollars
  • Oversee cross-organizational initiatives to improve holistic mental health and wellness strategies
  • Administrative oversight of hiring, training, and vision setting to ensure consistent holistic vision and optimal performance while meeting Federal/State mandates and organizational expectations
  • Lead the organization's mental health, wellness, social services, and initiatives
  • Maintain a high level of integrity for sensitive family and participant crisis needs
  • Consultant on high-level risk concerns offering recommendations utilizing holistic mental health and wellness best-practice with a solution and client-focused lens for over 25 early childhood, educational, home visiting, after- schools and administrative programs within the Zone
  • Oversee and ensure quality counseling, crises intervention, and case management services to reduce or eliminate any risk factors that impede a participant's ability to learn or place a participant and family at risk
  • Write evaluations and improvement plans ensuring full compliance with all requirements and deadlines
  • Coordinate and maintain quality participant mental health, wellness, social services, and parent engagement programs and ensure research-based interventions for participants with mental, behavioral, and developmental needs are evident and supported.
  • Provide operational leadership, management, and direction
  • Monitor crisis prevention and response efforts at the schools and community levels, charting the path for continuous improvement in these efforts
  • Set vision and expectation for high-quality learning opportunities for staff, families, and community
  • Provide high-quality annual reports and quarterly status reports that communicate performance toward all annual targets and dynamic intervention strategies to ensure that annual goals and targets are met
  • Work collaboratively with Research and Evaluation team to ensure program data integrity
  • Effectively support with grant writing, grant updates, and any funding reports required
  • Collaborate with Promise Academy Principals, Program administrators, school staff, and HCZ programs
  • Assess high-risk situations and make immediate recommendations and referrals in effort to ensure child safety and reduce or eliminate risk factors
  • Monitor quality assurance and the timely and accurate completion and submission of all required documentation
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualification, Skills, and Knowledge Requirements

    • Licensed Mental Health professional with a minimum of a master's degree in Social Services Field (LCSW, LPC, etc.), PhD in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
    • At least (10) years of experience in the mental health, or social services sector, with a preference for experience working in school-based social services or community mental health
    • Minimum of (5) years of relevant supervisory experience as an administrator with demonstrated results in managing and supervising health, mental health, or health promotion services, or a closely related area of health care practice and administration.
    • Proven success in leading community-wide efforts to transform the provision of social services for students and participants in an urban setting
    • Proven record of success and commitment to working with issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
    • Experience in budget and personnel management, preferably in a non-profit organization
    • Demonstrated excellent leadership, communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, including the ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
    • Experience leading organizational change preferred
    • Ability to problem solve, analyze, and achieve results
    • Expertise in state education law around student wellness and social services.
    • Innovation-oriented, team-oriented, and data-driven leader with high levels of energy and deep commitment to urban youth
    • Proven ability to strategically create and manage effective operational systems and structures
    • Effective management skills to successfully lead numerous streams of work in a high-paced, demanding environment
    • Strong project management skills with the ability to coach, develop, and lead talent
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook
    • Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and integrity
    • A commitment to the mission and programs of HCZ
    • Required to work late nights (as needed) to support crises and to accommodate programming needs
    • Bilingual (Spanish and French/African dialect) is desirable
