Position OverviewIn the continuation of the Generation Equality
journey and with the push to achieve the Sustainable Development
Agenda and its Goals by 2030, the UN Foundation Girls and Women
team seeks an adept and innovative Senior Manager, Advocacy & UN
Engagement to support the team's work to connect and strengthen
gender equality ecosystems in the multilateral space.
The Senior Manager, Advocacy & UN Engagement will work closely with
the Director, UN and Civil Society Engagement and a New York-based
UN Engagement team, including the Program Officer, UN Engagement
and the Associate, UN Engagement.
This position is based in New York, New York. -Essential
Functions
- Lead UN advocacy engagement, including with UN Missions and
relevant offices of the UN Secretariat, Agencies, Funds, and
Programmes, with guidance from the Director, UN and Civil Society
Engagement and the support of the Program Officer, UN
Engagement
- Work closely and in partnership with civil society on advocacy
strategies and messaging related to the UN advocacy ecosystem, with
the Director, UN and Civil Society Engagement
- Develop and maintain close and collaborative working
relationships with UN Mission contacts, UN system technical staff,
and civil society representatives
- Support on Member State and civil society advocacy and
collaboration requests, briefings, and meetings, working closely
with the Program Officer, UN Engagement
- Track and monitor key advocacy developments within the UN
ecosystem, such as resolutions relating to gender equality, CSW
agreed conclusions, and other policy language negotiation as
relevant
- Develop advocacy briefs, position papers, and other relevant
materials as needed.
- Attend relevant virtual and in-person meetings and negotiations
during key moments such as UNGA, CSW, and HPLF
- Ensure active and engaged membership in the Women's Rights
Caucus, the Women's Major Group, and other key stakeholder
groups
- Collaborate with the Head of the New York Office, the Senior
Director for Sustainable Development Initiatives, and other New
York office colleagues to ensure aligned advocacy and awareness on
gender equality issues
- Provide regular synthesis and updates of advocacy developments
and issues to monitor for the Girls and Women team and external
partners
- Support Generation Equality engagement, through coordination
with UN Women's advocacy priorities
- Provide strategic advocacy guidance to the Director, Generation
Equality, for key partner engagement, including the Nest for
Generation Equality and the High-Level Champions for Gender
Equality
- Serve as CSW and HLPF planning and coordination lead for the
Girls and Women's team; provide support as needed during key
moments such as UNGA, CSW, HLPF, and other relevant UN or civil
society conferences and summits
- Support the Vice President for Girls and Women Strategy, and
the Senior Director for Girls and Women Strategy with relevant UN
advocacy talking points, briefings, research and knowledge products
as needed
- Other duties as assignedSelection Criteria
- Bachelor's degree required in relevant field; Master's degree
preferred
- Minimum of 7 years' experience working in the gender equality
ecosystem on women's rights, girls' rights, or other human rights
areas, international development, or international relations.
- Demonstrated commitment to intersectional feminist values and
principles
- Proven track record of advocacy skills
- Existing collaborative relationships with key stakeholders in
the UN gender equality ecosystem
- Expert understanding of UN advocacy space, mechanisms, and
modalities
- Demonstrated ability to build trust-based partnerships with a
wide range of key stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and
institution, including UN missions, civil society, and youth
leaders
- Track record of successful engagement with UN processes on
gender equality including Generation Equality, the Commission on
the Status of Women, and HLPF
- Excellent technical knowledge on gender equality and
rights-based issues
- Strong research, analytical, and synthesis writing and
presentation skills
- Proficiency or fluency in languages other than English
preferred
- Ability to work under pressure and handle stress
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationallyBenefits
