Job Description:
The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for planning,
implementing, organizing and evaluating all services of the Nursing
Department. Supervises and evaluates all department staff.
Responsible for monitoring appropriate job performance and
completion of evaluations and coaching of staff. Supports mission
to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory
guidelines, meeting facility standards, and obtaining appropriate
certification. JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Creates, revises and updates department programs, policies and
procedures as needed, with the approval of department
head.Participates in quality improvement program. Manages and
ensures the implementation of departmental quality activities.
Reports to the Quality Forum on a quarterly basis.Implements and
evaluates compliance to NYS DOH regulations. Assists Director in
preparation for accreditation and program certification surveys.
Involves staff at all levels in survey compliance.Develops and
implements systems for documentation necessary to maintain
accountability and compliance with external regulations and
internal standards, and standardization within SMHCS.Enforces the
operations structure for the department and recommends work systems
to ensure optimum utilization and coordination of personnel and
resources.Organizes and directs the department staff to accomplish
required activities in an efficient and effective manner.Provides
feedback to staff when opportunities for improvement/excellence are
observed. Performs coaching/disciplinary action as necessary and
with the approval of the department head.Participates in the
recruitment, hiring, orientation and assignment of qualified staff.
Recommends methods to enhance recruitment and retention efforts.
Assists with the preparation of annual unit budget for supplies and
labor. Maintains budget within established parameters.Conducts
employee performance evaluations according to defined
schedule.Monitors and justifies all budget and staffing for their
unitInvestigates all resident or family related
occurrences/complaints. Submits investigation summary to AVP
timelySubmits written reports within established time
frames.Fosters practices consistent with the organization's
mission, vision and values; and family-centered care.Provides
adequate opportunity for staff training and education. Ensures that
staff meets in-service requirements.Assists with development,
coordination and accomplishing short and long range plans for the
department and specific clinical programsAssists the AVP to
maintain adequate supply of qualified staff and participate in the
recruitment, interviewing, selection and development of leadership
staff.Collaborates with the AVP and other care providers in
planning for coordinated services to the residents.Utilizes current
research findings when making recommendations for improving nursing
or resident care. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES Conducts regular department
meetings with staff on all shifts Provides decision-making support
to staff, in the absence of the AVPFormal education
required:Bachelors Degree in Nursing required; Masters in Nursing
preferredCurrent NYS RN LicenseACLS, PALS and BLS certification
required Previous experience required:Minimum of five years
managerial and supervisory experiencePediatric experience
