DescriptionAt Ports America, the Cruise -Operations Manager will
supervise labor and vendors during ship operations as well as those
handling repairs and maintenance for the facility, including port
buildings, yard, pier and other structure and grounds to ensure the
work is completed efficiently, safely, and timely.
- Supervise and plan activities prior to the ship coming into
port. -
- Check berth conditions for docking, work areas for safe
operation of stevedores and checkers, and that all labor has been
assembled for adequate and efficient operations.
- Ensure all company policies and procedures are adhered to
including collective bargaining agreements, and local practices in
the application of supervising labor.
- Maintain good working relationships with labor and union
officials ensuring that labor policies and contracts are understood
and adhered to.
- Provide supervision and direction to labor and maintenance
staff regarding standard operating procedures and safe work
practices.
- Coordinate with Facility Safety Manager to ensure safety and
health hazards are addressed immediately.
- Ensure labor orders are submitted in advance of vessel
call.
- Identify and solve problems and issues daily, usually of a
routine or moderately complex nature.
- Report problems and issues to the appropriate Manager, as
needed, especially issues of complexity or great impact on the
operation.
- Ensure that performance issues of employees under his/her
supervision are addressed, and corrective action/discipline is
imposed when circumstances warrant.
- Accurate and timely completion of all necessary and required
documentation associated with the operations.
- Preparation of a wide range of reports for local and corporate
use.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Shift: work varied hours and shifts including days, nights,
weekends and holidays as needed.Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Marine Operations, Operations Management,
Business Administration, or related discipline
- OR High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of experience in
marine operations, operations management, or related
discipline
- Valid US Driver's License
- Obtain and maintain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of
Homeland Security.
- Secure a Pier Superintendent License issued by NY/NJ Waterfront
Commission.Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a supervisory role or supervising ILA
Longshore Labor.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, with the ability to influence
and prioritize.
- Sense of Urgency & Self-Starter Mentality
- Good leadership skills.
- High level of planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written
English.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional time management, due to fast-moving, demanding work
environment.
- Must be computer literate; proficient with Microsoft Office -
Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and
regulations and related industry governmental regulations.Physical
Working Attributes:
- Frequent walking, standing, bending, and occasional
sitting
- Climb up and down stairs and equipment
- Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather
conditions
- Work in an environment with moving objects and machinery; the
environment may be hazardous to persons unable to see or hear fast
moving heavy equipmentCompensation Range: - $74K - $90K / year
