Department: US Business is made up of the Group Benefits and Retirement Income Solutions businesses which account for 46% of MetLife's overall business with $2,905M of adjusted earnings in 2022. The Role :The VP of Communications for MetLife's US Business teams will have a track record of success in developing and executing holistic communications strategies across external and internal channels. The role includes acting as a strategic communications partner to MetLife US Business senior leadership team, to enhance employee engagement across the US Business organization, and deploy communications initiatives to foster collaboration across the enterprise, and to elevate US Business' mission and role externally for the benefit of MetLife.

The VP will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies that influence a wide range of internal and external audiences. This individual will expertly align communications plans to support MetLife US Business strategic objectives.This role engages leaders in an active and collaborative communication planning and implementation process.

This individual must have significant experience in managing communications that target a wide range of stakeholder groups including employees (current and potential), customers, vendors/partners, and key influencers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as primary support for the Head of US Business who is also a member of the Executive Leadership Team, with professional internal and external communications that will help achieve business objectives
  • Empower the US Business leadership team to articulate the vision and strengths of the US Business portfolio of products, while also increasing alignment and consistency of message
  • Enhance MetLife's reputation, both internally and externally, a great place to work and support our employment value proposition - #All Together Possible
  • Provide counsel to senior leaders on communications strategies and secure buy-in on approaches
  • Strengthen employee engagement with communications executed across a range of channels while continually seeking new and better ways to connect to key audiences
  • Create a platform for engagement externally that aligns with the internal strategy
  • Simplify complex ideas and strategies from the organization to internal/external audiences, understanding how to make them relevant
  • Manage a team to help execute strategic goals
  • Work effectively with others at all levels within the organization

    • Reports to:EVP Corporate Affairs
    • Direct reports/team: 5 direct reports and a team of 8
    • Key Stakeholders: Head of US Business and US Business senior leadership team
      Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:
      • At least 15 years of experience in communications and public relations. Agency experience a plus.
      • Experience in working with business-to-business and business-to-consumer companies
      • Proven expertise at working in a matrixed organization
      • Experienced in traditional media, social media, and new media channels with demonstrated results in using them internally and externally to engage stakeholders
      • Track record of success in developing and executing integrated communications approaches
      • Bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, journalism, or related field
      • Recognized as a team player who willingly shares knowledge and information with others
      • Demonstrates strong learning agility; navigates complexity and thinks systemically; synthesizes and brings clarity of focus
      • Intellectually curious; demonstrates a learning-mindset, critical thinking skills and strong problem-solving capabilities

            The wage range for applicants for this position is $204,900 to $273,200. This role is also eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock based long-term incentives. MetLife offers a comprehensive benefits program, including healthcare benefits, life insurance, retirement benefits, parental leave, legal plan services and paid time off. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
