Overview

Credit Risk ensures the effective management and implementation and adherence to the credit risk management strategy for the Bank. The Director for Alternative Funds will be part of a team that has responsibility for reviewing all alternative fund types including Hedge Funds, Private Equity Funds, Structured Credit Vehicles and other alternative fund structures.

Description:

  • Management of a portfolio of Alternative Funds including Hedge Funds, Private Equity Funds, Business Development Companies and other alternative fund structures.
  • Participates in and evaluates loan commitments primarily to unregulated Funds managed by Financial Sponsors. Lending commitments include Capital Call Facilities, Bridge Finance Facilities as well as leverage loan Facilities with direct recourse to Fund portfolios.
  • Evaluation of requests for FX, Repo Finance, Sec Lending and other trading products.
  • Reviews and challenges underwriting team's (1st Line of Defense) proposals, provides analytical and financial analysis review, evaluates and determines appropriate credit structure and terms
  • Prepare and review financial analysis, leads fund level financial statement and asset level analysis, cash flow analysis, etc.
  • Attends Client Due Diligence meetings to facilitate delivery of credit commitments and/or assists in problem resolution
  • Provides appropriate credit guidance to the underwriting team and collaborates in defining appropriate credit risk appetite
  • Contribute to the ongoing credit evaluation of credit processes and models to determine if changes or modifications are required (scorecards etc).
  • Participate in the training and mentoring of junior staff
  • Will be required to contribute to the Portfolio Management Committee meetings and Portfolio Review meetings with senior management.

    Experience
    • Excellent credit analysis and financial modeling skills
    • At least 10 years of experience in financial industry, preferably related to Loan Finance, Subscription Finance, Structured Finance, Repo Finance, Securities Lending and Foreign Exchange.
    • Credit Risk management experience, specifically portfolio risk and Lending exposures (primarily to Hedge Funds, Private Equity Funds, BDCs, loan funds, etc.)
    • Experience in negotiating new transactions and reviewing Legal Documentation, Term Sheets etc working with the 1st Line of Defense.
    • Experience in reviewing and negotiating credit terms in Market standard Trading documents including ISDAs, MRAs and MSLA'S.
    • Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with involved internal and external stakeholders.

      Qualifications:
      • Bachelor's degree in finance or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. MBA is preferred.
      • 10-15 years of total work experience and 3-5 years of management experience preferred
      • Experience in risk analysis or commercial banking preferred.
      • Robust analytical thinker with intellectual curiosity and attentiveness to detail is essential.

        BNY Mellon assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $150,000 and $225,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNYM total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.

        This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
