The Academy is seeking to hire a proven leader as a key member of the executive team in a newly-created position of Senior Vice President for Public Engagement (SVP/PE). The overarching role of the SVP/PE is to coordinate the activities of the Development, Communications and Marketing, and Library Departments, and to oversee all aspects of public engagement, including existing programs and new initiatives across the Academy’s programs, and provide consistent messaging and a clear vision for advancing COMPANY’s mission. The SVP/PE will provide thought leadership and drive innovative ways to help raise the profile and reputation of the Academy, including developing goals and strategies for engaging and influencing existing and new external stakeholders, and guiding plans for a potential new Learning and Education Center at the Academy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the executive team, the Senior Vice-President for Public Engagement will oversee the development, communications, marketing, library, and public programming events of the Academy. The successful candidate will: Develop strategic goals, in conjunction with the Development, Communications and the Library teams, to enhance public engagement that leads to increasing COMPANY’s impact and financial sustainability, raising its public profile and brand, and further amplifying its reputation as a leader of the health and medicine community. Provide leadership & inter-team communication and cohesiveness across units, fostering a positive and productive culture, and strengthening staff skills and knowledge. Manage the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the units the SVP/PE oversees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Academy policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning and directing work, rewarding and coaching employees, and performance management. Ensure excellence through oversight of programmatic operations in development, communications and marketing, and library, and across public engagement activities and initiatives throughout the Academy. Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support new programmatic initiatives as well as ongoing activities, programs and events. In conjunction with the Development team, cultivate new funder relationships and create new partnerships to advance the mission of the Academy and spur innovation. Ensure outcomes are measured and evaluated on a regular basis. Work collaboratively with the executive team to integrate across programs to maximize impact and financial sustainability. Supervisory responsibilities: Director of Development Director of Communications & Marketing Director of Library Qualifications Minimum 15 years of experience with a proven track record of success in aligning and leading teams in a complex and competitive non-profit environment. Collaborative and result-oriented approach to promoting innovation, exceptional performance and strong teamwork. Experience leading and driving the production of high quality, creative events that meet funding goals and advance donor involvement, cultivation and stewardship. Exceptional relationship management and interpersonal skills to work effectively with donors, trustees and staff. Integrity, a positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with a passion for COMPANY’s mission. Excellent communication and influencing skills, including proficiency in public presentations. Education Minimum of bachelor’s degree plus requisite experience, or graduate degree in relevant field plus experience.
