Communications & Strategic Planning Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A (Brooklyn A) is seeking a Director of Development, Communications & Strategic Planning to collaborate with the Executive Director to create a strategic direction for fundraising and communication activities with the Development staff and for organization growth at large. The Director of Development, Communications & Strategic Planning will also be working with the Board of Directors, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Operations and Special Projects, management team, staff and volunteers. Since 1968, Brooklyn A has provided free legal services for low-income residents and organizations of Brooklyn, pursuing a uniquely neighborhood-based mission of justice, empowerment and community development. We focus our work on advocacy that protects and develops affordable housing, combats tenant harassment and housing discrimination, strengthens families, provides access to education and health care, and safeguards subsistence income for low-income individuals and communities throughout Brooklyn and New York City. Brooklyn A has three core programs Preserving Affordable Housing (PAH) Program, Consum & Economic Advocacy (CEA) Program, and Community & Economic Development (CED) Program each of which has unique initiatives and plays an important communi role to ensure basic needs are met and fundamental rights affirmed. Responsibilities_Include_The_Following * Support Chief Financial Officer in effective financial resource development and serve as an in-house consultant to other staff regarding directed development efforts * Support and collaborate with Executive Director (and other executive and program managers) to plan and regularly engage in organizational strategic planning for program, staff and operational development and growth * Expand the current fundraising programs and build on the annual fundraising events * Manage donor pipelines through the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship stages and create individual donor strategies * Supervise Development staff and manage the Development program budget * Be responsible for the general supervision, hiring and development of the Development and Communications department s staff, including the establishment of departmental goals, monitoring staffing and scheduling needs, effectively coaching and counseling supervisees, accurately monitoring the performance standards of each staff member and evaluation of employees and for promoting cooperative, productive behavior * Working closely with Development staff, develop and implement a series of smaller events for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of various stakeholders * Develop and oversee implementation of institutional gift program, including research, grant writing, development of proposals, etc. to increase support for strategic programmatic and organizational priorities * Monitoring all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to Board, executive leadership and funders * Create and manage Development communications, including proposals, grant reports, website (including substantive content), emails, print media, digital media, social media, gift acknowledgements * Lead in planning and facilitation of regular strategic planning with support of and collaboration with Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer, including engagement and coordination of internal and external stakeholders and consultants * Collaborate with Executive Director, Director of Operations and Special Projects and Program Directors, to plan, implement and support staff and organizational development focused on diversity equity and inclusion, including engagement and coordination of internal and external stakeholders and consultants * Present regular progress reports to Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, and Board of Directors * Other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director * Engage with diverse stakeholders and partners, including elected officials, government agencies, private and corporate donors, community- based organizations, coalitions and clients * Represent Brooklyn A at various meetings, presentations and community events * Manage engagement with New York State and New York City elected officials * Education/Experience o Bachelor s degree required; relevant Master s preferred o 10+ years of professional development, communications and strategic planning experience in a nonprofit organization, demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging business relationships) and proven leadership in organizational development and management o Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders and partners, including elected officials, government agencies, private and corporate donors, community-based organizations, coalitions and clients o Experience thoughtfully engaging with clients/community members with diverse backgrounds o Experience communicating issues faced by vulnerable populations using sensitive and empowering frameworks/narratives o Knowledge and experience with grant writing, reporting and prospect research o Basic understanding of conceptual design and production of communications and marketing materials o Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives o Excellent written and verbal communications skills o Knowledge and comfort with all aspects of fundraising, including event-based fundraising, major gifts, one-on-one solicitation, cultivation and prospect/honoree research o Ability to work with diverse organizational leadership and staff to build consensus around fundraising strategies and tactics o Ability to look at a challenge from a variety of perspectives and develop creative approaches that are responsive to stakeholders o A collaborative approach to working with internal and external colleagues to maximize the effectiveness of projects and programs; a team player o Ability to make difficult decisions and follow through on agreed upon initiative, work collaboratively, yet independently, when needed o Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast pace and changing environment o Excellent project management skills; ability to manage date and develop, implement and oversee budgets o A demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and values o Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, driven and goal oriented o Demonstrated ability and desire to think strategically and execute efficiently and effectively. o Advanced computer skills (Raiser s Edge Certified and Donor Perfect preferred) and expertise in Microsoft Office (Word; Excel; Power Point; Outlook) o Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusions in the workplace (training in this areas preferred) o Passion for the mission of Brooklyn A o Skills_Required Relationship Development # Strong networking and relationship management skills, with a history of growing relationships from transactional to mutually beneficial, particularly around fundraising # Demonstrate a willingness to work in a collaborative and strong team-based organization o Executing to Results # Efficient time management skills, ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple priorities # Ability to parse large projects into small achievable goals and deadlines # Strong research skills ability to identify and research corporate prospects o Communication # Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills experience writing persuasive and inspiring proposals and reports # Ability to evaluate partnership impact and success.
