The mission of HSS is to provide the highest quality patient
care, improve mobility and enhance the quality of life for all, and
to advance the science of orthopedic surgery, rheumatology and
their related disciplines through research and education. The Chair
will ensure the excellence of the Department's clinical,
educational, and research programs and assume - overall
responsibility for operations and strategy across the Department.
The main focus of the HSS Department of
Neurology is neuromuscular diseases, which is consistent with the
mission of HSS. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
--- Provide visionary and innovative leadership to the
--- Oversee neurologic clinical programs that support orthopedic
surgeons through pre- and post-operative management, -
intra-operative monitoring during spine surgery, and other
--- Develop outstanding outpatient programs for sports-related
neurological conditions including concussion, injury related -
neurological disease, spinal disorders and care and management of
neurologic conditions in athletes.
--- Collaborate with rheumatologists and all other physicians in
diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory myositis, - myopathies,
peripheral neuropathies, and other neuromuscular disorders.
--- Work with HSS physicians and staff to optimize quality, patient
outcomes, the patient experience, and satisfaction - with care.
--- Ensure excellence in clinical education and advanced training
to fellows in neuromuscular medicine.
--- Together with the Chief Scientific Officer and leaders of the
HSS Research Institute, define priorities for the - Department's
--- Be responsible for the Department budget, including revenue
projections, capital, operating, and expenditure budget -
--- Recruit, develop, and retain outstanding faculty and staff in
support of Department activities. Ensure an atmosphere of - support
and development for all.
--- Provide leadership in enhancing diversity, equity, and
inclusion and promote cultural competence within all aspects of -
--- Partner with institutional leaders and the Office of
Development to cultivate philanthropic support for all aspects of
the - Department's mission.
--- Oversee professional development and mentorship of
neurologists, focused on academic achievements, reaching - practice
goals, performing research, and citizenship / team-based behavior.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
--- Clinical and academic accomplishments and credentials within
Neurology, particularly in those areas most important - to the HSS
Mission as outlined above, including those relating to
neuromuscular diseases, and have experience
collaboration with other disciplines.
--- The experience and national reputation necessary to ensure the
enhancement of the research, clinical, and - educational missions
of the Department.
--- Previous success in managing complex clinical programs focused
on quality of care, research, and education.
--- Financial and business knowledge of the complex pressures
facing specialty hospitals and health care delivery -
--- An M.D./D.O. degree and Board Certification in Neurology.
Certification in either Neuromuscular Medicine or - Clinical
Neurophysiology is preferred.
--- Candidates should be eligible for medical licensure in the
State of New York and for appointment to the faculty at - Weill
