Chair, Department of Psychiatry. This ambitious and innovative

outstanding leader and skilled physician we seek will have a strong
track record of program building and innovation, and will play an
integral role in all clinical, academic and administrative
activities of the department. Successful candidate must have a deep
knowledge of clinical practice, a strong commitment to training and
career development in research and clinical care and, demonstrated
leadership and administrative ability in a complex clinical
enterprise. A passion for mentoring and development of faculty and
fellows, superior interpersonal and relationship building skills,
and the ability to foster an environment of collaboration,
integrity, trust, and transparency between the Department and all
other departments in the organization are essential. The Chair will
bring vision to the task of drafting the Department's future, serve
as an agent for change, establish a strategic overarching long-term
plan, and able to identify areas for productive growth in clinical,
educational, and research programs. Leadership responsibilities
include:
- Effectively leading the Psychiatric Department toward
excellence in the conduct of teaching, research, patient care
delivery, administrative services and community activities.
- Communicating the mission, vision and values of the hospital
and Department to faculty and staff through personal example and
commitment.
- Having an awareness of the growing behavioral health needs of
the community and developing ways to meet them.
- Understanding the needs and requirements of the department and
effectively communicating and advocating for those with the Chief
Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer.
- Motivating and developing faculty and staff by accurately
assessing and addressing their strengths, weaknesses, and
developmental needs.
- Champions new initiatives, assuming the risk and responsibility
for the Department.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with clinical
and academic partners.
- Actively participating and advocating for Behavioral Health as
a member of the system-wide Behavioral Health Council. Clinical
responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the provisions of outstanding behavioral health care
that is of the highest quality.
- Ensuring all requirements of local, state and federal
accrediting agencies are met.
- Providing and managing direct patient care.
- Works closely with other Department Chairs to achieve common
goals that improve the quality, service delivery and financial
performance.
- Developing and growing clinical services of the Department
which includes adult and pediatric ambulatory, adult in-patient,
psychiatric emergency services, and substance use disorder
services
- Developing and growing clinical services of the Department
which includes adult and pediatric ambulatory, adult in-patient,
psychiatric emergency services, Recovery Center, Mobile Crisis
Unit, MICA services and consultation services.
- Ensuring timely, customer-focused communication with physicians
and hospital staff to support and enhance patient care. Academic
responsibilities include:
- Ensuring adequate faculty effort, oversight, and support for
programs of undergraduate and graduate medical education.
- Oversight of clinical education and training of students,
interns and residents, as well as their interaction with and
treatment of patients.
- Supporting faculty pursuit of research and scholarly activity,
consistent with their other duties.
- Providing departmental vision and environment to promote
research and research funding.
- Promoting cross departmental research projects.
- Supporting and overseeing the Psychiatry Residency and
Psychology Internship Program Directors in management of the
training programs. Administrative responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing department budget to ensure attainment
of fiscal targets.
- Directing and facilitating the recruitment, retention and
professional development of high quality faculty and staff and
deploys them strategically to meet the needs of our community.
- Serving, as appointed, on key committees and task forces within
the hospital and the H+H system.
- Supporting diversity in the employment, education and
development of faculty and staff, making decisions based on the

- Must be Board Certified in Psychiatry
- Valid NYS license to practice medicine or the ability to obtain
one

*Actual salary is commensurate on experience plus other factors.
