Job Description & Requirements - Specialty: Behavioral Health - Discipline: RN - Start Date: 01/05/2026 - Duration: 13 weeks - 36 hours per week - Shift: 12 hours, nights - Employment Type: Travel RN – Psych Location: Brooklyn, NY Shift: Nights – 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM Duration: 13 weeks Start Date: Jan 05 Position Overview: The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, therapeutic, and patient-centered care to individuals with acute or chronic mental health conditions in an inpatient behavioral health setting. The RN is responsible for assessing patient needs, developing individualized care plans, implementing evidence-based interventions, and ensuring safety within the unit. Collaboration with psychiatrists, social workers, and the multidisciplinary team is essential to support stabilization and promote positive patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct comprehensive mental health and physical assessments. - Administer medications and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects. - Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment for patients. - Respond to psychiatric and behavioral emergencies using de-escalation techniques. - Document all patient interactions and interventions accurately. - Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and coping strategies. - Participate in treatment team meetings and unit safety initiatives. Requirements: - Active NYS RN License – Required - Minimum 2 years of inpatient psychiatric or behavioral health experience – Required - BLS (AHA) – Required - CPI, PMCS, or similar crisis intervention training – Preferred - EMR experience (EPIC preferred) - Strong communication, crisis-management, and de-escalation skills Patient Population: Adults with psychiatric conditions, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, substance use disorders, and behavioral crises. Patient Ratio: Typically 1:6–8, depending on unit acuity and staffing. Additional Details: - Weekend or holiday rotations may be required. - May float within behavioral health units as needed.
