Nurse License Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced
Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: Bachelor of Science
in Nursing (BSN) preferred Description: The Clinical Nurse is a
Registered Professional Nurse. This role provides safe and
competent quality care based on nursing theory and research. The
Clinical Nurse delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of
the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care.
Nursing care is delivered through the application of the nursing
process based upon theory, research, and evidence-based practice.
The Clinical Nurse assesses and evaluates patient care needs. This
position requires the application of critical thinking skills in
patient care management. The Clinical Nurse collaborates with the
interdisciplinary healthcare team. Development, implementation, and
evaluation of the plan of care are key responsibilities.
Prioritization of all aspects of patient care is essential. Patient
education is provided while anticipating needs and readiness to
learn. Effective and professional communication with patients,
families, and team members is required. Assignments must be managed
within the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing. Role
modeling the tenets of Relationship Centered Care is expected.
Therapeutic relationships with patients and families must be
established and maintained. Evidence-based practices are utilized
to enhance patients' understanding of care perceptions. Service
recovery is initiated for patients and family members with
concerns. Caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active
listening must be demonstrated in all interactions. The Clinical
Nurse practices safe and efficient patient-centered care. Barriers
and opportunities for improvement must be identified and escalated.
Clinical skills and knowledge related to quality and safety are
crucial. Quality improvement projects, evidence-based activities,
and nursing research studies are part of the role. Compliance with
quality and safety practices is required. Documentation of nursing
practice must support quality and performance improvement
initiatives. Patient throughput facilitation is part of the shift
responsibilities. The Clinical Nurse contributes to the environment
of care for clinical colleagues, patients, and families. Ongoing
advancement of clinical competence in nursing practice is
necessary. A professional image must be projected in communication
with colleagues. Ethical principles must be incorporated into
decision-making for patients and families. Encouragement of
lifelong learning and innovation for self and others is important.
Knowledge and skills relevant to the role and patient population
must be acquired. Participation in shared decision-making processes
