experience in a hospital setting required License: Registered Nurse
license in Client Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Pediatric Advanced
Life Support (PALS) Must-Have: Must have pediatric ICU experience
in a hospital setting Must have a BSN Description: The Pediatric
Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe
and competent quality care. Care is based on nursing theory and
research to a designated group of patients and significant others.
Patient care is delivered by incorporating the tenets of the
professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care. The
nursing process is applied based on theory, research,
evidence-based practice, and approved organizational standards. The
nurse assesses and evaluates patient care needs and applies
critical thinking skills in patient care management. Relevant
assessment and intervention skills are integrated in the delivery
of nursing care. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary
healthcare team occurs in the development, implementation, and
evaluation of the plan of care. Prioritization of all aspects of
patient care is essential, including teaching, rounding, coaching,
and planning after hospital care. Delegation to others is done as
appropriate. Patients and caregivers are educated while
anticipating needs and readiness to learn about their plan of care.
This includes transition of care, promotion of health, and
prevention of disease. Effective and professional communication
occurs with patients, families, and all members of the
Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team. Assignments are managed within
the Care Delivery Model of Modified Primary Nursing. Material
resources are allocated effectively. Role modeling the tenets of
Relationship Centered Care is necessary through various
facilitation actions. Consideration of patients' values,
preferences, cultural diversity, expressed needs, and knowledge is
integral to care. Establishing and maintaining a therapeutic
relationship with patients and their families is critical.
Evidence-based practices are used to increase understanding of
patients' perceptions of care. Service recovery for patients and
family members is initiated for concerns and escalated as needed.
Caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening are
demonstrated through dialogue, body language, and actions. Support
for staff usage of evidence-based practices is provided to enhance
understanding of patients' perceptions of care. Purposeful Hourly
Rounding is conducted on assigned patients addressing essential
care needs. Safe and efficient patient-centered care practices are
followed, identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for
improvement. Demonstration of clinical skills and knowledge crucial
to quality and safety in the patient population served is required.
Process improvement strategies based on institutional evidence are
implemented. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to create
and implement quality improvement projects occurs. Contributions to
quality and safety practices and required compliance measures are
expected. High reliability principles are implemented to identify
and avoid high-risk behaviors. Potential safety hazards or gaps
from best practice are escalated following appropriate protocols.
Institutional information technology is utilized for documenting
nursing practice to support quality and performance improvement
initiatives. Relevant clinical competence in the area of nursing
practice assigned is necessary. Ability to maintain interpersonal
relationships, communicate appropriately, and work effectively to
solve problems is important. Demonstration of teamwork through
effective communication and critical thinking is essential.
Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and speaking
English in a clear and concise manner is required. Visual,
physical, auditory, and cognitive ability to assess patient status
is necessary. Physical and mental health must be sufficient to care
for acutely ill patients with a variety of diagnoses and behaviors.
Ability to walk, stand, lift, stoop, push, and respond quickly in
various situations is required. Manual dexterity to perform various
clinical procedures relevant to the practice area is necessary.
Proficiency in using basic data entry, retrieval systems, and
electronic medical record documentation is required. Pediatric
