Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Mother Baby Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience, 2 years of postpartum and antepartum experience License: NYS RN License Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. - Knowledge and experience in newborn assessment. - Well-versed in postpartum care. - Experience with magnesium sulfate. - EPIC experience preferred. Description: The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of professional practice centered on relationships. Applies the nursing process based on theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs while applying critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including education, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care, delegating to others as appropriate. Educates patients and caregivers while anticipating needs and readiness to learn about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion of health, and prevention of disease. Communicates effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the Interdisciplinary Patient Care Team. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery Model and demonstrates effective allocation of material resources. Role models the principles of relationship-centered care through various actions, including bedside shift report and purposeful hourly rounding. Considers patients' values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs in all aspects of care. Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Uses evidence-based practices to enhance understanding of patients' perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and families who have concerns and escalates to management as needed. Demonstrates caring, compassion, empathy, and active listening through actions and dialogue. Practices safe and efficient patient-centered care while identifying and escalating barriers and opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates the clinical skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient population served. Implements process improvement strategies based on evidence and institutional procedures. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to create and implement quality improvement projects and research. Contributes to quality and safety practices and compliance measures. Implements principles of high reliability to avoid high-risk behaviors, ensuring a safe environment for patients. Escalates potential safety hazards or gaps from best practices using the institutional chain of command. Documents nursing practice accurately to support quality and performance improvement initiatives. Performs charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinates with nursing leadership to ensure supplies and resources are adequate for patient care. Escalates material or staffing resource deficits as necessary. Documents in compliance with hospital standards. Facilitates patient throughput on shift basis. Advances clinical competence in nursing practice.
