Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Must have oncology experience, must
have BMT/CART experience, must have a Bachelor of Science in
Nursing (BSN) Description: The Clinical Nurse is a Registered
Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based
on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients
and significant others. Delivers patient care by incorporating the
tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered
Care. Applies the nursing process based upon theory, research,
evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing
standards. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs and applies
critical thinking skills in patient care management. Integrates
relevant assessment and intervention skills in the delivery of
nursing care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare
team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan
of care. Prioritizes all aspects of patient care including
teaching, rounding, coaching, and planning after hospital care and
delegating to others as appropriate. Educates patients and
caregivers about their plan of care, transition of care, promotion
of health, and prevention of disease, while anticipating needs and
readiness to learn. Communicates effectively and professionally
with patients, families, and all members of the Interdisciplinary
Patient Care Team. Manages assignments within the Care Delivery
Model of Modified Primary Nursing and demonstrates effective
allocation of material resources. Role models the tenets of
Relationship Centered Care through defined actions including
admission welcome, bedside shift report, and hourly rounding.
Considers the patient's values, preferences, cultural diversity,
expressed needs, and knowledge in all aspects of care. Establishes
and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients and
families. Uses evidence-based practices to understand patients'
perceptions of care. Initiates service recovery for patients and
families who have concerns and escalates issues as needed.
Demonstrates caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active
listening through dialogue and actions. Practices safe and
efficient patient-centered care, identifying and escalating
barriers and opportunities for improvement. Demonstrates clinical
skills and knowledge crucial to quality and safety in the patient
population served. Implements process improvement strategies based
on evidence-based procedures. Engages in peer and institutional
review processes. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to
create and implement quality improvement projects and nursing
research studies. Acts to comply with quality and safety practices
and required compliance measures. Implements principles of high
reliability to identify and avoid high-risk behaviors to ensure a
safe environment for patients. Escalates potential safety hazards
following institutional protocol. Documents nursing practice to
support quality and performance improvement initiatives. Performs
charge nurse duties as assigned. Coordinates with clinical
leadership to ensure appropriate utilization of supplies and that
inventory meets patient care needs. Escalates material or staffing
resource deficits as necessary. Documents in a thorough manner in
compliance with regulatory and legal standards. Facilitates patient
throughput on a shift basis. Contributes to an environment of care
that supports clinical colleagues, patients, and their families.
Advances clinical competence in nursing practice. Projects a
professional image and communicates with respect and empathy.
Incorporates ethical principles into decision-making for patients
and families. Encourages scholarship, inquiry, lifelong learning,
and innovation for self and others. Participates in shared
decision-making through nursing department committees and unit
initiatives. EPIC experience is highly preferred. Average unit
census is approximately 35 patients with 136 beds per unit. This
position requires commitment to providing safe, quality care to
patients in the oncology specialty. Requirements Required for
