at Our Organization We are seeking a full-time Psychiatrist to join
our team at the VA New York Harbor Healthcare System, specifically
within the Primary Care/Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program.
This role involves providing consultative assistance to primary
care providers, overseeing outpatient panels with a variety of
psychiatric conditions, and managing psychotropic medication. The
psychiatrist will work collaboratively in integrated care
environments, focusing on early intervention and the prevention of
behavioral health issues among veterans. The VA New York Harbor
Healthcare System encompasses multiple sites, including a
significant medical facility in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the St. Albans
campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics
(CBOCs). This system is recognized as an academic institution with
active teaching and research initiatives. Our Manhattan campus,
affiliated with a prestigious medical school, is looking to hire a
full-time Psychiatrist for the Primary Care/Mental Health
Integration (PCMHI) program. Key Responsibilities: The PCMHI
program represents our approach to merging mental and behavioral
health care within medical settings that are co-located and
collaborative with primary care teams. The focus is on early
intervention and prevention for mild to moderate behavioral health
issues, while also facilitating the identification and referral of
veterans to specialized mental health services when needed. PCMHI
services include collaborative care providers and Mental Health
Collaborative Care Managers who deliver ongoing support and
treatment management, ensuring veterans receive tailored care. The
psychiatrist's role includes providing consultative support to
primary care providers, advising them on the use of psychotropic
medications as part of the VA's stepped mental health care model.
Additionally, while remaining fully integrated within the Primary
Care clinic, the psychiatrist will manage a panel of outpatients
from the Mental Health Clinic, addressing a broad spectrum of
psychiatric disorders primarily through medication management. Work
Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
This position qualifies for the Education Debt Reduction Program
(EDRP), which offers student loan repayment assistance. Approval,
award amounts (up to $200,000), and eligibility periods (ranging
from one to five years) apply. Essential Qualifications: U.S.
Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified
citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy. A
Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent, obtained from a school
recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of
completion. A current, unrestricted license to practice medicine or
surgery in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the
District of Columbia. Completion of residency training approved by
the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty
program, leading to eligibility for board certification. We Offer:
Annual performance bonuses of up to $15,000. Guaranteed salary
increases. A full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State is
acceptable for employment. CME: A stipend of $1,000 per year and
five days of paid leave for conferences and related activities.
