Job Description:
Job Description Position Summary Under the supervision of the
Clinical Supervisor and Mental Health Unit leadership, the Mental
Health Clinician provides comprehensive mental health services to
adult individuals in a secure institutional setting. This role
focuses on assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and
continuity of care for patients with serious mental illness,
behavioral health needs, and substance use histories. Key
Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive mental health evaluations,
assessments, crisis interventions, and follow-up care Determine
appropriate levels of mental health care and coordinate patient
disposition Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure
appropriate housing, treatment placement, and access to care
Coordinate discharge planning and continuity of care services in
collaboration with reentry and social service staff Develop,
facilitate, and lead individual and group therapy sessions,
including on mental health observation and specialized units
Participate in mental health and medical rounds, case conferences,
and treatment planning meetings Maintain timely, accurate, and
compliant clinical documentation and required statistical reports
Participate in scheduled clinical supervision (minimum once weekly)
May conduct psychological testing as assigned May provide
supervision to social work interns or student volunteers, as
assigned Perform other related duties as assigned by Mental Health
Unit leadership Required Skills & Experience Experience conducting
both mental health assessments and treatment with adult populations
Demonstrated experience working with individuals with behavioral
challenges, substance use disorders, and/or severe mental illness
Preference for candidates with inpatient, institutional, or
comparable high-acuity clinical experience Strong diagnostic,
clinical judgment, and crisis management skills Ability to work
effectively in a structured, secure, multidisciplinary environment
Education & Licensure Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology,
or a related mental health field Active New York State licensure
required (LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, or Licensed Psychologist) Schedule &
Work Details Start Date: 03/09/2026 Schedule: 5 days per week , 7
hours per day Total Hours: 35 hours per week Work Location: Secure
healthcare facility in East Elmhurst, NY Required onboarding and
compliance training (including DOC and PREA) conducted on-site by
