Are you a detail-oriented HR professional looking to join a small but growing team? Motivate is looking to hire a payroll and benefits manager to lead all aspects of the operations from processing, to policies to carrier connections. This role will report to the Director of People Operations and manage a team of two analysts.

Job Responsibilities





  • Manage biweekly payroll processing, including reconciliations, timesheet approvals, wage garnishment compliance, and retro changes


  • Manage benefits administration for the firm, including:





    • Day-to-day benefits tasks, designing benefits training and employee education, wellness initiatives, invoices and reconciliations


    • Ownership of 401k plan administration, eventually becoming an active member of the investment committee


    • All compliance initiatives, including 5500s, Healthy SF/HCSO, and the Affordable Care Act


    • Familiarity with leave administration, including FMLA and ADA requests


    • Proactively address employee benefits questions and empower field managers and HR team to be self-sufficient with basic requests





    • Regular and ad-hoc reporting requests to key stakeholders on People, Safety, and Executive teams

      • Planning & Organizing:Establishes a systematic course of action for self or others to ensure accomplishment of a specific objective. Sets priorities, goals, and timetables to achieve maximum productivity. Manages one's time to meet all project and assignment deadlines.



        About You





        • 7+ years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits, including 2+ years of experience managing a team


        • You're excited to manage and grow a team, and will delegate effectively to make sure everyone is challenged and sharing the workload


        • You love iterating on things and making them better, you're always trying to solve the next problem before it happens


        • You are comfortable and thrive in an agile and fast paced environment


        • You can work independently to set efficient timelines and project goals


        • You don't take things too seriously and know how to laugh at yourself


        • You deliver consistent results and are dependable and responsible


        • You are resourceful. You think creatively in difficult situations and are always looking for innovative ways to solve problems.


        • You have Strong Excel skills (CountIfs, SumIfs, Pivot Tables)


        • You have incredible attention to detail. You are consistently thorough when completing tasks and continuously monitor work, timelines and resources efficiently


        • Your organizational skills are next level; you establish a course of action and timetable for goals and projects, can efficiently prioritize needs and meet deadlines


        • You have strong interpersonal communication skills. You can easily make relationships across departments, articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and ensure that both colleagues and yourself are understood



          Bonus Points





          • Experience transitioning from benefits carriers


          • Experience administering and supporting a self-insured medical plan


          • Experience supporting a company with location(s) in California ---


          • Experience with Ceridian Dayforce a plus


          • Experience managing relations with key outside vendors (benefit providers, HR providers, and brokers)
