We manage internet traffic for video streaming, measuring the quality of video encoding, and monitor and alert on operational and experiential anomalies. Our scope spans video-on-demand (VOD), domestic and international live streaming, and includes some of the biggest streaming events on the internet (like Super Bowl).Role Details: The Central Video Technology team is looking for a Lead Software Engineer motivated to deliver truly excellent software services and is proficient in building observable, scalable, and robust APIs as well as a desire to contribute to a widely adopted delivery network orchestration tool. You will work with your team to identify areas for improving the reliability, performance and observability of our services. As a senior staff member, you will be an important voice in advocating for more robust standards, a mentor to team-mates, and will have a high degree of ownership of both code and architecture.Your Day-to-Day: Collaboratively plan and develop features and longer range initiatives Propose ways to make services easier to use, maintain and monitor Consult with leadership and product teams to determine product roadmap, important team initiatives, and to provide an engineer's voice to the conversation Contribute to automation and CI/CD pipelines so code is developed and delivered reliably Participate in code reviews, pair programming and team agile processes. Mentor colleagues to improve code quality, best practices, keep the bar of quality high, and push those around you to be better Work with modern technology, languages, and patterns Key Projects: Implement a self-service API for our CDN configuration service that allows other teams to easily configure and extract maximum performance/observability from many CDN vendors. Assist in the design and integration of a service that collects real-time user data to determine the best CDN for any given device, depending on CDN performance, CDN cost rates, business rules, and desired traffic splits. Contribute to the overall standards and practices of the team and organization to follow DevOps best practices like "infra-as-code" and automation. What you bring to the team: You have - You have experience working on distributed systems, production incidents, have had ownership of code and architecture beyond deployment, and have killer instincts for debugging production systems Deep knowledge in Python and one or more backend programming languages (ex: Go, Ruby, Python, Javascript) Experience building out scalable and observable production API services (Docker, FastApi/OpenApi, cloud-native) and can evaluate tradeoffs between performance, operational costs, development time and other considerations Familiarity with relational and nosql database technologies Excellent verbal technical communications skills Works well in a collaborative team using Agile methodologies An excitement for working on and around live streaming video projects and deriving new ways to process, analyze, and make sense of the treasure trove of data we collect.
