Job DescriptionWho we are?Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and the other in Manhattan. Position SummaryThe Ethics & Technology Coordinator is a member of the ECFS technology team and reports to the Director of Technology. Working within the assigned division(s), the Ethics & Technology Coordinator supports divisional priorities, ensures their work is aligned with the school's ethical mission, and works with their peers in the technology department to provide a cohesive technology learning experience for students in grades K-5. The most critical role of the Ethics & Technology Coordinator is to help the school community apply everyday ethics to online environments. The Coordinator will support the Manhattan campus grades K-5 and is an 11-month position starting August 1, 2022Responsibilities

  • Support faculty in including ethical considerations in the curriculum for topics related to technology;
  • Provide direct support to classroom teachers to integrate technology into classroom activities;
  • Work with faculty, department chairs, grade level teams, and curriculum committees to identify cross-curricular opportunities to integrate technology and ethics topics into their courses and subjects;
  • Work closely with school counselors and specialists to support social emotional learning and health and wellness as it relates to technology;
  • Partner with the admin team, diversity and ethics departments to offer community professional development;
  • Partner with Technology Support Specialist counterpart to provide a unified approach to technology within the respective division(s);
  • Plan parent, student, and staff workshops relating to contemporary ethical issues in technology such as screen time, addiction, information literacy, privacy, student wellness, identity, diversity, civic engagement, environmental justice, access, human rights, civil rights, security, and sustainable practices;
  • Participate in student support and disciplinary meetings when relevant to technology use (or misuse);
  • Run school programming around the right to repair, labor rights and tech sustainability education;
  • Model ethical technology use with peers and students;
  • Emphasize student well-being, environmental sustainability, labor rights, privacy, security, and other ethical considerations when developing classroom activities with teachers;
  • Provide feedback on needs of division(s) to inform long-term technology plan;
  • Work closely with the divisional administrative team(s) to ensure needs of community are met;
  • Engage in regular professional development that supports department goals and the school's ethical mission.Qualifications
    • Master's degree in Digital Media, Educational Technology, Media Studies, Diversity & Inclusion, Ethics or related field preferred;
    • 3-5 years of relevant experience;
    • Advanced knowledge of the Google Apps for Education products;
    • Experience supporting and using a variety of tech tools and staying abreast of new technologies;
    • Prior experience in a K-5 environment strongly preferred;
    • Demonstrated commitment to progressive education and curriculum development;
    • Excellent communication skills;
